  • after cysto/hydro

Hi, Just thought I'd let you know how it went. Very smoothly really. My bladder pics. confirme IC. I'm having more burning and pain, but not as bad as I imagined. All the pain meds. slow me down and I have been fighting constipation I guess it's too soon to tell if the cysto will help yet. My dr. has me on elmiron. Any suggestions on what to take for the pain that won't constipate?? I've cut way back on what they sent home with me. Thanks for your support! Grace

    Hi Grace,

I'm sorry to hear it is IC, but at least you know now and can start getting adequate treatment. grouphug

As for constipation, my cysto/hydro was a week ago, and I am just getting over the constipation the pain meds caused NOW. Donna and Kathi on these boards suggested taking the stool softener Colace (the one without the chemical laxatives in it), and that combined with stopping the narcotic pain meds seemed to get things moving again for me.

Grace, I am glad you got through it and now you know for sure about the IC and can start treatment. I can't help much with the constipation problem. For me eating a high fiber diet helps but everyone is so different. Make sure you are drinking enough, that may help also.
        Hugs coming your way. grouphug

For short term use I find the thing that works best for me is plain old milk of magnesia. It's what my doctor suggested. I prefer something that doesn't cause cramping and it doesn't. Another suggestion is to be sure you are drinking enough water.

i had my cysto/hydro in jan. and was constipated for 5 days .. i found that if i didnt take the pain medication for a day it was all better, you might, if you not in a lot of pain like i was.. go off the pain meds for a day if you dont wanna take any more medications to relieve the contsipation..
