  • Hydro tomorrow 3/23

I went back to the Ic doctor that did my interstim and he is going to finally do a hydrodistension. He didn't want to he says that all the literature says that the more Hydrodistension that are done the less helpful they are. I told him that it didn't matter I really wanted one because the two other times I have had it done twice and experience relief from pain for 6 months both times. When he did the interstim he told me that if it didn't work for pain he would do a hydro every 6 months if i needed him too. So I am making him stick to his word.
Keep me in your thoughts and prayers.

Good luck, I haev one scheduled for the 29th. This is third one, I had my first one in 3/05 and was DX with IC. I had another one done last year when I had my interstim out. My new Doc at Pa hospital keeps you overnight and irrigates the bladder. It is uncomfortable because the cathiter is in the entire time and there is some presure, but they give you pain meds

Again good luck and hopefully we will get some needed relief.

47 year old Wife and Mom of two teenagers and a Business Manager at a local high School. Total hyst in 2/03 for severe endo, had several adheasion surgeries for pain which did not help. Went to many different specialist for answers and was finally DX with IC in 3/05 . Metronic interstim put in for frequency and pain on 9/05 and still had pain and burning with no relief and had it removed in 5/06.

Current Meds, amtriptaline, 1/2 ambien when needed to sleep, hydrocodene as needed for pain, miralax for constapation. Just finished DMSO treatments with new Doc, painful and gave me no relief.

      Still hoping for remission

        hydro Yesterday

I had mine done (after 15 months of begging, yesterday) Good for you for making your doctor stick to his word. In addition to regular pain meds they gave me a scrip for lidocaine to use on my urethra, of course they also gave me antibiotics, because it would be my luck to get an infection from applying the lidocaine. It really helped a lot, I guess they did urethral diolation as well as the hydro so I was expected to be extra sore. I am still a bit of a zombie from the pain meds today but I have really high hopes that I will feel great in a few weeks. Good luck with your procedure.

I was born with one ureta not attached to it's kidney, I've been poked and prodded for so long. I never had "private" parts. I had constant infections and took low dose preventive antibiotics into my teens.

DX with IC July 1993 after seeing 3 different Uro's and finally switching Primary care doctors and affiliated hospitals.

I have 2 beautiful daughters, the oldest has been in heaven since she was 14 when she was hit by a car The youngest is 20 now. She has had one UTI. She went into complete panic that she would end up like me. Now she has some idea of what the pain is like. Poor kid has been forced to know where every bathroom in Disney World is.

Good luck with the hydro tomorrow. I go back to my uro next Friday and hopefully he will schedule my hydro. I've never had one and I really want to get it over with.

I have been diagnoised for 6 1/2 years now. I have taken a long break from the ICN but really miss helping out my fellow IC patients and want to get back into posting.
1st hydro 4/07 showed no visible signs of IC but tons of mast cells in all my biopsy samples which did prove IC.
2nd hydro 4/13/09 showed dark purple glomerulations and I had a capacity of 450 cc's. This hydro proved that my IC had progressed.
I have tried every oral medication as well as rescue instills and DMSO.

I have been lucky enough to see Dr Hanno, the top IC specialist in PA who has told me due to the fact that I have not responded to any "standard" treatments that I have a severe, end stage case of IC with a horrible quality of life (didn't have to tell me that last part!)
