  • bleeding after hydro

I had my first hydro done last monday and i am still spotting and having pain. for the first couple days i wore maxi pads and now i am still wearing a panty liner. Is this normal? It almost itches a little bit too and am wondering if being on the macrobid also has made me get a yeast infection.. just looking for some advice..

    thanks Lisa-

    Hi Lisa,
I can't speak about the hydro because I am actually having my first one on Wednesday. I just wanted to let you know that my uro told me that Macrobid would not cause a yeast infection but it surely did for me. When I was there on Friday and mentioned this to him he seemed very surprised. I know it was the Macrobid because I am not prone to yeast and had not had an infection in years prior to starting the Macrobid. I hope he puts me on something different after mine or gives me something for the yeast at the same time.

I have been diagnoised for 6 1/2 years now. I have taken a long break from the ICN but really miss helping out my fellow IC patients and want to get back into posting.
1st hydro 4/07 showed no visible signs of IC but tons of mast cells in all my biopsy samples which did prove IC.
2nd hydro 4/13/09 showed dark purple glomerulations and I had a capacity of 450 cc's. This hydro proved that my IC had progressed.
I have tried every oral medication as well as rescue instills and DMSO.

I have been lucky enough to see Dr Hanno, the top IC specialist in PA who has told me due to the fact that I have not responded to any "standard" treatments that I have a severe, end stage case of IC with a horrible quality of life (didn't have to tell me that last part!)

Thanks for writing me back I appreciate it..this is a new website to me and I have enjoyed reading about all of you! Its nice to know that I am many friends who have the same problems that I do. Thanks for listening! I was wondering what all of you thought about the Elmiron. My doctor wants to put me on it but I swear there are more listed side effects on the bottle than what the drug is supposed to do..it just makes me nervous being on it. I had one doctor tell me that I have IC and another one who said that I have just a small gray area of IC..so what would the Elmion do? Whats your opinion?

        Lisa,
To be honest, I haven't seen any real improvement with it yet but I've heard that it can take up to 6 months to see results and I've been on it about 5 months so we'll see. I have to say though even though I usually get side effects from meds I haven't had any problems with Elmiron. I don't get any of the stomach problems with it and as of yet my hair has been fine. I have so much hair though I would have to lose a heck of a lot before I would be able to notice anything. I figure I'll try it a little bit longer but if I don't see some results soon I may ask the uro about stopping it espically since with my crappy insurance it costs me $120 for a three month supply.

First of all, let me give ya my standard disclaimer that I am not a doc and the best thing is to call and speak to your healthcare team. That being said, it can be a couple things in my experience, either spotting from the hydro, or a yeast infection. The yeast can irritate the walls of the vagina and make them bleed, and your right the macrobid can do that.

I usually have a little bit of bleeding for no more than two or three days after a hydro. I do think you should contact your doctor to be certain you don't have an infection.

My dr. also told me that macrobid wouldn't cause a yeast infection, but it did. It was a very bad one because I didn't have it checked. I thought the macrobid wouldn't cause it. I agree with the others, you should have it checked.
I am having my third hydro this Wednesday. I am not looking forward to it. I hope that yours has helped you.

Thanks guys..I have my follow up appt from the hydro on Tues so I will definetly ask..yeah for some reason I still feel awful from the hydro..I have been on vicodin on all and macrobid and it still hurts to go to the bathroom. Is it normal to also be constipated from the hydro?

I bleed a little the first few days after a hydro. Vicodin is probably causing your constipation. When I take any pain medication I always take a laxative/stool softner so I don't get constipated.

I usually just bleed a day or 2 from a hydro. As to the macrobid, can't really tell you anything because I never used it, my doctors usually puts me on Levquin. Glad you are going back to your doctor for a followup visit. Let us know how it goes.
