  • First Hydro/Cysto today April 30

I had my first Hydro/Cysto today and I have been officially diagnosed with IC. I guess it is a little bitter sweet at least now I know what is wrong with me, unfortunately it is IC. My Dr is hoping the Hydro will help with the pain.

He also did a pelvic and rectal exam while I was under and he found something on the right side of my vagina, he is not sure what it is since he is not a Gyne, he did page to see if any drs from my gyne office where at the hospital so they could take a look and no one was there, he is going to call my Gyne to explain to her what he found. It's wierd since I had a vaginal ultrasound about 6 weeks ago and everything was fine. So I am not sure if it is a ovarian cyst or what.

I am to go see her within the week for another exam and probably another ultrasound and then back to him in 3-4 weeks.

He gave me Macrobid and ultracet. He also gave me pyridium for the pain/pressure to take in a few weeks after I recover from the Hydro. I have a question concerning wearing contact lenses. I know this turns your urine orange and on the prescription info it says do not wear contact lenses as they could stain. Has anyone ever took this medicine and wore contact lenses and they stained? I know I have taken OTC uristat and it says the same thing and I never had a problem. I wear contacts and I would hate to have to wear my glasses everyday. I will definately would have to buy a new pair of glasses, I only wear mine at home in the evening and they are so old.

I guess I have officially joined the "IC Club"

I am thankful that I found this message board, it has been a wealth of information for me and it has help me get this far and I hope to continue to get a lot more information to help me through this. Thank you everyone for posting so I could read and try to understand about this condition.

    Sue,
So sorry to hear that you were offically diagnoised today. I had my hydro about a month ago but didn't find out for sure that I had IC until I got my biopsy results. Personally I felt a big sense of relief that I finally knew for sure and I wasn't crazy. I hope that now that you have your diagnoises you will be able to be treated better and start to feel better. I don't know about the pyridum, I had read that it wasn't safe to take long term so my uro just gave me Urelle and even though it is REALLY expensive on my insurance I think it is helping and I like that everything is not stained orange anymore, lol. Take it easy, it took me about a week to feel completely back to normal.

I have been diagnoised for 6 1/2 years now. I have taken a long break from the ICN but really miss helping out my fellow IC patients and want to get back into posting.
1st hydro 4/07 showed no visible signs of IC but tons of mast cells in all my biopsy samples which did prove IC.
2nd hydro 4/13/09 showed dark purple glomerulations and I had a capacity of 450 cc's. This hydro proved that my IC had progressed.
I have tried every oral medication as well as rescue instills and DMSO.

I have been lucky enough to see Dr Hanno, the top IC specialist in PA who has told me due to the fact that I have not responded to any "standard" treatments that I have a severe, end stage case of IC with a horrible quality of life (didn't have to tell me that last part!)

So sorry it's IC... but I know the feeling of relief you get when your symptoms are finally validated! And... now you can begin to work with your doctor to find the perfect treatment plan for you.

I've used Pyridium and Pyridium Plus while wearing contacts, even though it says not to -- how am I supposed to work blind?? LOL -- and nothing has happened. They've been fine.

          Welcome to the club.
As to the contact ? I don't wear them but the pyridium really turns your pee yellow/orange, and your undies and your toilet!!
I prefer the urelle. It just works better for me. It turns your pee a pretty blue (do you have blue eyes--then it wouldn't matter ) and don't forget your undies and your toilet!!

I don't wear contacts; wear glasses - but really never had problems having the pyridium staining the toilet bowls, underwear yes, that is why I wear a panty liner. As to taking it everyday, or no more than 3 days in a row; I take it as much as needed sometimes for more than 3 days - and then there are days that I don't take it for weeks at a time, like now I just got my prescription filled today, (it expired so had to have the pharmist call the doctors office to get it ok'd). Anyway, I'm sure these ladies who wear contact are good at their word about that and that its ok to wear them and take it.

Hi and . I used to get hydros every 6 months to help with my IC pain. I have had IC for 9 years now. I would still do hydros for my IC pain if my uro would do it. I had extreme pain for about a week following hydro and then would feel great for 3-4 months.

Vinegar will remove most of the toilet bowl stains from pyridium.
