I just had one and it took about 4 days before I felt like really doing anything. This was my 4th one. Hope it will go ok. I slept for two days. Luckily my kids were with their dad out of town, so I had a very quiet house, noone to take care of and I just got laptop, books and water bottle and stayed in bed. It was great. Then on 3rd day my son came home and we went out for a while and the next day I was hurting again. So just take it easy for a while if you can.

When I had mine I had it on a Wednesday and took off that day, Thursday and Friday. I had told my boss I thought I was going to be back on Monday but me personally I was still really trained on Monday morning and ended up waiting until Tuesday to go back. I'm sure not everybody takes off that long but I really wanted to give myself time to rest. I would suggest that you take at least 2-3 and then let your boss know that you might need more time off too, if your boss will be flexible like that.

I have been diagnoised for 6 1/2 years now. I have taken a long break from the ICN but really miss helping out my fellow IC patients and want to get back into posting.
1st hydro 4/07 showed no visible signs of IC but tons of mast cells in all my biopsy samples which did prove IC.
2nd hydro 4/13/09 showed dark purple glomerulations and I had a capacity of 450 cc's. This hydro proved that my IC had progressed.
I have tried every oral medication as well as rescue instills and DMSO.

I have been lucky enough to see Dr Hanno, the top IC specialist in PA who has told me due to the fact that I have not responded to any "standard" treatments that I have a severe, end stage case of IC with a horrible quality of life (didn't have to tell me that last part!)

Don't be surprised if they give you some whacked out answer. The woman scheduling my hydro told me I could go back to work the NEXT DAY!! I looked at her like she was crazy. I said, yea right, having the in office cysto had me in tons of pain for days, there is no way I'm going back to work the next day. What a bunch of nuts.

When I have mine, I usually schedule it for Thursday, take off Friday (usually I'm fine by then but of course I have the weekend to finish recover or to do whatever I need) and then back to work on Monday. However, I have an office job as an Administrative Assistant, and my work comes in mostly thru mail and faxes. I have alot of computer work to do. If after awhile I begin to not feel good I just take out my good ole heating pad along with my pain medication (if needed) and work on the computer -- my bosses know that usually for at least a handful of days I'm not 100% at my best anyways, but afterwards, I'm usually giving it way more than that. Good luck with yours.

I have never had a hydro, so I have no idea about how you will feel afterwards, but I would be on the safe side and make sure you have a few days that you can be off (4 to 5) just in case. Some people are ok after a week, but then for some it can take a few weeks to get back to feeling better. Everyone is different. Good luck and I hope all goes well for you.

Well I heard from my uro so my plan of 3 days off should be good and then take it day by day. I am going to hopeful. I hate taking more time off. I know my crew will be fine wuth it though.
It looks like they don't take pictures of the bladder. I was so hoping to see what my bladder looks like with the hydro but hey I have seen it with the cystoscopy so I am ok with it. I am hoping to be one of those that experiences some relief from it so I think that is my main goal with this.

Good Luck! My uro doesn't normally take pictures apparently. They kept on telling me that he would come and see me before hand but he never did. So I got into the OR and hadn't seen him yet. I asked the nurses if he normally took pictures, they said no but I asked if he could do it for me. They must have told him because when I woke up there were pictures there. In my case though the hydro didn't show anything, he said my bladder looked normal so the pictures really did me no good. It was the biopsy that showed the IC because of all the mast cells I had.

I was hoping to see them just for my piece of mind but thats ok. I will just wait to hear what she says after the procedure. I am not looking forward to the drive back home! With rush hour traffic i am sure to be caught up in. I hope I can sleep on the way back or just zone out!
