  • is incontinence after cystoscopy normal?

    hi everyone,

i was diagnosed with IC one month ago, when i had a cystoscopy done. i remember he squirted some water in there (because he explained the bubbles we saw on the screen) and took a biopsy with a tiny needle.

i was given an rx for 100mg elmiron 3x daily and 10 mg amitryptaline, but only filled the elmiron. that's because i know ic flares and such can be linked to stress and anxiety issues which i have TONS of. being diagnosed made me take charge of my mental health too, so i am also seeing a therapist and a psych and can happily say that my mind feels healthier but my bladder is not. i did not want to take an antidepressant that may not have been right for me to begin with.

    moving on....

starting about 5 days ago ive been experiencing some small bladder leaks. its humiliating and uncomfortable to worry all day if im going to pee myself and not know it again. im also experiencing hesitancy.

could it be from the cystoscopy and water?

    Welcome to the board.

I don't think that incontinence after a cystoscopy is normal at all! Please talk to your doctor about this!

Yes, it is not normal. And take the anti-depressant. He did not prescribe it to you for your mental's for your bladder and to help you not hurt or pee as much.

i saw my dr and he is passing me on to another urologist in the building who deals with female incontinence. it has actually stopped but i will still see this other dr next week.

        @ 123456:
yes, i know what it is for but i already take a general anxiety medication and xanax daily for my anxiety issues, so throwing another ssri in there is not a wise idea. i also wouldnt want to swap meds either because its tough to find good mental meds sometimes and what i have works for me. i also dont like the horror stories ive read about amitryptaline. thanks though!

Please do check with your doctor about your medications. Amitriptyline is one of the meds that interferes with the pain receptors in the nerve system --- if none of the other meds will accomplish that, you will want to take the ordered med.
