  • cysto/hydro with biopsy last Thursday....

I had my 3rd cysto/hydro with bladder biopsy on Thursday, 9/15. I knew before having it done the pain after was going to be bad, but this is unreal. It feels like the worst flare times 1000 plus a UTI plus someone stabbing me in the stomach. If that weren't enough, I feel like I can't empty my bladder all the way. Not being able to empty my bladder all the way is a new side effect for me, as I've usually just experienced pain afterwards. I'm due to go back to work, but I am living on the pain pills at this point with my pain hovering at around a 9 or 10. Has anyone experienced a problem voiding after the procedure this many days out from the procedure? I'm on antibiotics, so I don't think an infection is the culprit. I'm going to call my Dr in the morning and see what they have to say. I hope this is worth it in the long run

    Hi
I was hospitalized three days post op due to complete urinary retention as well as total bowel shut down. The pain...well there are no words to describe. Way beyond a 10, if that gives you any idea. I ended up in the hospital for a week. So awful.

Complete urinary retention is a medical emergency. You may need to be cathed. Response to my situation was slow, so things just continued to get worse til I was finally admitted to the hospital. I'd hate for things to get as bad for you as they got for me before I finally got help.

What you are experiencing is a serious complication but not unheard of,...regardless if you have not had these complications to the cysto/hydro iin the past. Please seek medical attention and keep us posted.

I called the office this morning and am still waiting for a reply. Thank you for all the well wishes. I am still in a lot of pain and having trouble using the bathroom.

The office called and said I should continue my Pyridium for the next 24 hours to stop bladder spasms. The nurse said the spasms are preventing me from emptying my bladder. If I'm not better in 24 hours I'm supposed to call back and they will "re-evaluate" my situation.

I hope things are better today.

For me Pyridium really helps with bladder pain, not spasams per say, but I use it very sparingly as it causes me retention.

I already have retention problems though, not everyone get retention from this med.

But it might be adding to you retetnion problems.

Let us know howyou make out today.

So sorry to read about your extreme discomfort. I agree with everyone's post. Stay as calm as you can....for me stress only aggrevates my IC. Prayfully, you will be able to empty your bladder in the very near future. Please let us know how you and the consultation with your doc goes.

Have the best day you possibly can.

I agree, the Pyridium normally helps with my bladder pain, not the spasms. I also feel that is causes retention for me too. I explained this to the nurse yesterday, but she said no. I did what she told me to do, but I'm not feeling any better. If anything, the pain is actually worse now. I'm able to use the bathroom a little bit, but I still feel like I'm retaining. I went to work for a little while today, but that ended with me in tears, so I left I'm wating for the doctor's office to call me back again. Something has got to give.

OK.... The doctor finally called back and told me to come in because she was afraid I was "in retention". My uro is an hour and a half away in a different state, so my dear sweet husband drove me to minimize my discomfort Got to the office, they did a bladder scan and said I am not retaining a dangerous amount, only 60mL. The doctor said the majority of my pain and discomfort is from my spasms and should hopefully subside in the next few days. So, all in all, good news I guess. Thank you to everyone for the thoughts and prayers. Being able to share with others who know what I am going through has been a huge help
