I really appreciate your kind words. Thank you. I sometimes feel like I'm rubbing it in that I have learned how to manage my IC. I don't mean to do that, I just want people to know that there is life with IC. I love everyone here and wish I could make them better, but the only thing I can offer is hope and kind words. Thank you very much.
Hi Kenzy,
First of all, I have to say that you are awesome! When I first heard about IC and read these boards, I was scared to death. But hearing about your experience as well as your optimism and acceptance was truly a godsend. Thank you.
As for your question, I've been to two urologists and both have done scans each time I go in. When I was in my first major flair- frequency, urgency and burning(and in tears and desperate)--I was withholding more than 300 ccs. After being on Detrol, which helped, I was still retaining a bit - about 150ccs.
My new urologist-who is amazing and wonderful and treats IC patients--wanted me to try and wean off of the detrol because of the retention. He said the amount was ok...but for someone my age (34) I shouldn't be retaining.
This has gotten a bit off topic, but I'm happy to say that I weaned off the detrol at the end of last week and have been doing great. I have much more control and don't seem to be retaining. Every once and a while I have a little mini-flair (frequency/urgency) for an hour or so--but it's 1000 less than it was during my major flair.
It's so wonderful to have you on these boards! Congrats on getting your RN degree.
I was just wondering if anyone had ever had a bladder scan. i know alot of you have to be cathed to check for retained urine after voiding. I had a patient today who peeing like 50cc every 10 minutes. She had just had a hysterectomy and the anesthesia can sometimes cause urine retension. The doc ordered a bladder scan. A fellow nurse had to show me how to do this. It's like an ultrasound and they rub it over your tummy and the monitor calculates how much urine is in your bladder. She had 467cc retained. Just thought this may help some from having to be cathed.
