CAT scan

I am scheduled for a CAT scan on Friday and have to drink a solution called EZ CAT. It is a barium sulfate suspension. I am wondering if anyone has had this done and if the solution has bothered your bladder. I also have to drink some other solutions when I arrive at the hospital. I talked to a radiologist at the hospital and he had no info to give me. I know it is alkaline based. I've had some awful flares lately and am scared to drink the solution(s). Thanks for your help!

are you going for a cat scan for your stomach? If it is for your stomach, it went right through me plus come to find out I had a infection somewhere in my insteines and have a spastic colon which is ibs. I also have ic. I will be praying for you. I was in so much pain I don't know if it bothered my bladder but I remebered my stomach hurting me like the dickens.

My uro wants me to go for the CAT scan to see if he has missed anything (growths, tumors) that may be pressing on my bladder causing some of the pain that I am having. It has been a terrible year with daily pain. I called him and asked him about the solution and he didn't have much to tell me-just to drink half of the required solution. I suppose if it does bother me it will help other IC patients. I went in for a dmso treatment on Jan 26th-it usually helps-but this time I've had a lot of pain-more that just the first 72 hrs after. So here is praying that the solution won't cause another flare up!

Hi Alana, I know I had to have a cat scan just after I was diagnod with IC. I was given something to drink when I went into the room for the scan. That did not affect my bladder thank goodness, and then another cat scan, I had an IV in, and I just felt a little flush for a second, but sorry cannot remember what that was for, at that time, had so many scans and tests done. Please let us know how you get on with your scan. Be thinking about you, been there done that, hugs Iris. grouphug

thank you for your reply. It makes me feel better that it didn't affect you. I don't want to worry about a 'flare' happening-as the stress itself may cause one. I will let you know how I feel afterwards.

Hi Alana,
sorry to hear you are having such a bad time. I am glad that your doctor is taking such a thorough approach to your health though, it will be good to know there is nothing else wrong. I am in Calgary, and doing RIMSO (having a bad time with it) and under assessment at the chronic pain clinic here. I haven't had any barium sulphate that I can remember, can you take prelief with it? that might neutralize its affect?

I didn't even think of taking prelief before I drink the solution. Thank you for the suggestion-I will be doing that! I will let you know how things go tomorrow.
