• Urodynamics question???

Hi everyone,

I am scheduled for urodynamic testing 2 days before my upcoming hydro. I have had the basics of the procedure explained to me, but I was wondering if anyone who had had it done knew what the results mean? Or is there anywhere that I can read up on it?

With all the comments from fellow ICers about diagnosis frustrations I am hoping to inform myself on this test enough that I can understand the results/implications.

Thanks for helping,

lots of girls (lots of daughters)

Hi, I had the uro done a few weeks ago, what they do is fill the bladder up with water, then they ask you questions when you feel full and when you need to go to the bathroom. Mine only took 5 minutes. Good luck and let me know how you make out. Deb

I had mine done in 1995. For me, the most important thing it showed is that my bladder is in a spasm almost non-stop. The uro nurse who did the test told me that she had never done one with the non-stop spasm and told me that she was going to have to have the dr call me. He said it was "no big deal". Well, that was REAL easy for him to say cuz it's MY bladder that's spazing! not his!

He is now my X-uro

Hi-

I had urodynamics done right after the potassium test- different room, different catheter. Anyhow potassium hurt. And as for the uro- the dr. who performed it (also analysed voiding diary) said my bladder appeared to function normally. But I still had/have freq + urin. attacks and pain regardless. Most recent new dr says that despite fact that bladder doesn't contract, it can spasm and not show up on that test. I don't know if that's true or not. I hope your tests run smoothly. And if anyone know about what my dr said, let me know.

Hi, I had the urodynamics study done a couple of months ago and they found that my bladder does not empty totally. I am on Flomax. I was wndering if this had to do with ic and if any one has this too. The urodynamics study disn't really too bad, the worse part for me was when they put the catheter in, that killed me. besides that you should be fine, let us know!!

Hello:

I had this test done and also found out that my bladder does not empty. I think this has something due to the IC, but not sure. Does any one else have the same problem? Does it have to be corrected? My Uro never mentioned it to me, this post just twigged my memory.
God bless, Yvonne

Hi, I had the uro done too and my bladder doesnt hold much urine, they call it the overactive bladder and I think it is ic related too. People think cranberry juice will help me and I tell them I have inflammation of the bladder and have high uric acid so I cannot drink it or it brings on a flare for me. Hang in there. Deb

I had a urodynamics test done in March of 2001. I came to the uro with symptoms of urgency, frequency, and very severe pain. At 80ccs my bladder went into spasm. The doctor diagnosed me with overactive bladder, gave me a script for detrol, and told me to come back in three months. I told him, I was in such severe pain, that I could not function or sleep. I told him I spent my nights crying in pain, and asked if these were the symptoms of overactive bladder. He said he was 85% sure it was. My family said it was foolish to spend any more time with him. I got a new uro, and was quickly diagnosed with severe IC. For me the urodynamics test was a total waste. Two different doctors looked at the same results, and made a totally different diagnosis.

Darlene-

I had practically the same problem and I took overactive bladder meds for 4 months last year w/ no changes. But now I'm taking oxybutynini hydrochloridum which I think is the same as Ditropan and Imipramini hydrochloridum with good results in my third month.

I didn't think the meds would help at all because the pain was so strong. And ya know, it didn't help really at all for the first month. And I totally understand how you feel when 2 doctors look at the same test results and tell you something completely different. Probably like many of us, 10 doctors have looked at the same results and have told us 10 different things.

As I said before, I'm going to discover the cure for IC and become universally adored by all ICers. And I'm going to win the lottery. And world peace and...

I had this test done yesterday. When I went in and told me to pee in the pot and hardly went at all. Then they drained my bladder out and then put a cather in my urethra and retum. Then I stood up and then took xrays put dye in me. Then they wanted to me to pee standing and I could not go so I had to set on the pot to go. Then they took more x-rays a found out my bladder was not empty so there was 100cc left in my bladder. so I go back to doctor in 2 weeks to talk to him about the test. I would not want to have this done again. I had lot of burning and pain after the test. I had the test done because he wanted it done before he did the botox treatment. Deborah

I had mine last april

Is a very embarrassment test, and mine took 2 hours

I think that this test is very necesary for us, because with this we can know how is working our bladder and our pelvic floor

The results of mine was: overactive bladder, hyperreflexia sphincter, 50% residual urine, little bladder capacity, and overactive pelvic floor

Ah!! and with this test you can know if you don“t have neurological problems in the bladder

I think this exam is very important

Deborah,
Abnormally high "residual volume" is generally considered to be 100 cc or more. And one isolated measurement of that amount wouldn't necessarily raise a lot of concern. You can have future measurements done simply by using ultrasound. Several years ago, I had readings of 115 and 125 cc. But none that high since then (even with continuing constant "sensation" of incomplete bladder emptying).

I had a urodynamics test done twice. Once in Oct. 1999 and again in April 2001. I didn't have to drink any dye and they didn't do the x-rays of my bladder. They never told me the results or if my bladder doesn't function mormally. I had a sonogram in Sept. 1999 which showed I have a very high residual volume. Is this common with IC?

Thank you everyone for responding. The test wasn't painful, just not fun. The technician was very good and it did show that I had very little volume. I had a hydrodistention in Dec and I have alot better volume now, and have less frequency. The urgency and pain is the same I think. My uro said after the hydro that he'll repeat the hydro as necessary to stretch the bladder.

What alot we go thru, maybe we could get a badge or something.

LOG, I can't hold alot of water either. My bladder is small. Yes, we should get a badge for all that we go through. I think I have another uti, going to the uro after work to get a culture done. I am so sick and tired of this. Will it ever end? Thanks for listening. Hang in there. There is always hope.
