Yes --- it's one that's usually given to men who are having a problem urinating due to a prostatic gland problem. I helps relax the muscles to allow easier urinating.

Pyridium allows me to sleep at night. I wonder if it is an option to take Pyridium every day for the rest of one's life...

            I had another sleepless night.

Yesterday I began taking a "saw palmetto extract" and also "flower pollen extract". It looks like I am one of the minority of people for whom one of those things makes things a lot worse instead of making things better.

It would also appear that Pyridium has stopped working. I took a third pill at 3 am, and it felt like I haven't taken anything. This explains why the manufacturer says to only take Pyridium for no more than two days. I thought they didn't want people to wait for longer than two days to see a doctor to have their UTI treated. It looks like they know that their drug loses its effectiveness after two days. I wish they had been more clear about that...

So I am back to square one - not sleeping and feeling tremendous discomfort 24 hours a day...

I'm so sorry. Does heat help you? How soon do you have a medical appointment?

I do have one suggestion --- when adding anything new, do it one at a time, at least a couple of days between. That way, you will know if it's a problem. Are you able to get any rest during the day?

I own a heating pad. I tried sleeping with it over my bladder. It looks like heat isn't helping.

Yes, it was a huge mistake to take two new herbs at the same time. I guess I will wait 24 hours and then try taking them one at a time. I am not sure... I don't want to risk robbing myself of another night...

I made an appointment (it will be over the phone) at a walk-in clinic. I will attempt to get them to expedite my appointment with a urologist by telling them about another sleepless night. I suspect that the reason a urologist isn't treating this as urgent, is because there won't be much a urologist will be able to do.

I saw my family doctor yesterday (back when I believed that Pyridium was helping me). He said that I am to take my antibiotic for another 10 days, and then if it isn't helping he would be willing to expedite my urologist appointment... Otherwise my appointment will take place in about 2 months.

I am able to rest during the day.

I just discovered that Pyridium is a likely carcinogen. I won't be able to take it any longer... It is shocking that there are no alternatives to Pyridium...

There are several bladder medications that contain methylene blue, which might help. It turns the urine blue --- the one I have taken is Urised --- it also has a soothing effect similar to pryidium, but (for me) takes a little longer to become effective.

                      Thank you!

I will get to talk to a urologist on Friday. Unfortunately it will be over the phone. I am hoping to get the real appointment next week. Once I have my diagnosis, I will ask about methylene blue.

For now I seem to have gotten into an "equilibrium" where it isn't too bad during the day (I still need to pee when I have at most 200 ml in my bladder). At night I wake up every 45-75 minutes and every time I take 15-30 minutes to fall asleep again. This lack of sleep is not only making me feel like I am in a stupor throughout the following day. It also began causing me to get serious headaches...

I discovered that if I drink a liter (I think that's a quarter of a gallon) of water at night, I wake up after about 90 minutes with my bladder being actually full. It is bizarre that when the bladder is actually getting full fast, the symptoms seem to go away.

Have you tried drinking that water earlier and drinking less close to bedtime? If you can keep your urine dilute, it can help. I usually don't drink much when it's close to bedtime and I usually sleep several hours at night without a bathroom trip. I also have a bi-pap machine to help combat sleep apnea and that helps me to sleep.

I'm glad you'll at least be able to talk on the phone with a urologist --- and it would be okay to tell him about how the pyridium helped and ask about methylene blue --- he might be willing to order enough to get you to your appointment.

I will try that tomorrow. Right now it is bedtime for me.

Normally, if I drink a liter (4 cups) of water all at once and I am awake afterwards, I pee about an hour later...

Last night was better than usual. Today was good too. I haven't had any apples on Monday and on Tuesday. Today I had some apples. In the evening, my symptoms were back. There is a chance that it makes sense for me to avoid apples...

There are many kinds of apples that are on the list of foods for an ICer to avoid. I can tolerate mild ones, such as delicious. It might be a good idea for you to avoid apples for a while before you try again. It sounds like you are finding some of your food triggers. There's a link to diet information in my signature below. Even after my 46 years with IC I still sometimes have to refer to the list --- if it's something I haven't had for a long time.

                                Thank you, Donna.

I am not sure what type of apples they were, but they weren't sour.

It is 9 pm, I can feel my bladder, and I am still not sure whether I will be able to sleep tonight.

Donna, is it the case that when one takes Prelief, one can eat all of the foods that one knows are one's trigger foods and not get any flares? Or is that true only for certain acidic foods like tomatoes and oranges (or only true for some people)?
