Hi everyone. My name is Laura and I'm 17 (18 in May). This summer I had my first UTI which cleared up immmediately with antibiotics. I have since had a second UTI, which also cleared up, however since then my bladder has been in pain. I haven't really had the frequency that you all are describing, but I have been going about 6-7 times a day instead of the usual 3 times a day that I used to go. Sometimes I feel like I kind of have to go to the bathroom, but not really - it's kind of like a tickle in my bladder, and if I don't go, I have no problem. Has anyone else experienced this kind of tickle that makes them feel as if they have to go? I am seeing a urologist next Friday January 23rd and he is going to do an ultrasound for starters. I'm very very nervous about having IC especially because I'm going to college next year far away from home. I'm afraid that my frequency problems may get worse if I do have IC, and I will have to go 50 times a day like some of you have described. Can my frequency get worse? As I said, I'm only having to go about 4 more times a day then I'm used to, so so far it has not been too much of a problem. I think my worst problem is just the uncomfortable pain feeling in my bladder. Anyways, I'm VERY nervous esp. since I'm going to college next year. If people could answer my questions, I'd be very grateful. Thanks.

Welcome, Laura and glad you found us. hi I think it's great that you will be seeing a uro who can rule out some other things and help you figure out what is going on. Even IF it is IC (and it may not be) you will find that many people with IC find treatments that help and they go on to lead normal lives. I know some people here are in college.

Diagnosed August 2001
Current IC meds: Elmiron (since 2001), Levaquin (one pill after intercourse to prevent UTIs), Effexor (for depression & anxiety)
Past IC meds: Amitriptyline (Elavil), Hydroxyzine (Vistaril), Detrol LA, Lexapro (for depression & anxiety, but also helped my IC) (They all helped, but I was able to discontinue them.)
I've been virtually symptom free and able to eat & drink whatever I'd like for about 8 years now.

Hello and welcome Laura, I am glad you have an appointment with a urologist, that way you can find out what is going on with you, and it surely will ease you mind a little. Glad that you found us, and can get a lot of information from the network. Please keep us posted as to how you are doing, and how you get on with your appointment with your urologist. Hi Laura,
I made it through college with many bladder problems. I still haven't officially been diagnosed with IC. I just graduated last May. It was hard at times, I also went to college far away from my home and my family. I didn't really have frequency either, just that urgency feeling. It can be irritating, especially during those all night study sessions. I hope you find some good friends that will help support you.

Sorry to hear your bladder is giving you so much grief! grouphug I went through 2 degrees with IC, so just to let you know (IF you have IC)...it IS possible! What did your urologist say about your current symptoms? Did your uro check you again for infection?

Well the thing is I DID have an infection. I had a lot of different kinds of bacteria, and I was given Leviquin. I just finished that yesterday, but since Ive been treating that, my bladder has been hurting/feeling weird. BUT, I also have a yeast infection which I am currently treating myself for with Monistat. I am wondering if this could possible be creating some of my pelvic pain/bladder weirdness??? Please someone respond to this question.Comment

Yes, vaginal infections can result in some feelings similar to a UTI. You'll probably have to clear that up - make sure it is yeast and not bacterial - it is so very hard to tell the difference without a culture. Once that is cleared up and you have a clean urine culture you might have a better idea of what is going on.

Welcome! I'm 21, and I was 16 when my IC symptoms became full force. If you'd like to chat, I'd love to listen. I know that yeast infections always make me flare. Just another fun thing we ladies get to live with.

Have you had a culture done to verify that what you're dealing with is yeast? That can be very important. Infections can cause flares and you need to be sure you're getting the right treatment for the specific "bug" involved. If what you have isn't yeast, the self treatment isn't going to help.
