On Tuesday night my uring culture came back positive for nitrates, so I indeed did have a UTI that needed different antibiotics. However, I've been on a very strong antibiotic since then (two days worth) and it hasn't relieved the symptoms. I'm living on pyridium. I'm terribly afraid it's pushed me out of my "remission" and sent me back into a flare.

I've stayed home the last two days with the excuse that I need to let my body rest and recover. But, truth be told, all I've been doing is hiding under the covers! I've got another 1/2 hour to do so...and then I promised my husband that I would get out of bed and get back into the land of the living. I'm going back to go take advantage of that 1/2 hour!

I would think that after 2 days that you would be better. Or it could be just a flare from the UTI. I would check with your URO. Can't he prescribe something for the pain?

Sometimes it takes my bladder a few days after finishing the antibiotic to get back to feeling better. I think UTIs can do a real number on our IC bladders --- above and beyond what they do to a normal bladder.

Did they do a sensitivity, too, to make sure you are on the right anti?

      Diagnosed August 2001

Current IC meds: Elmiron (since 2001), Levaquin (one pill after intercourse to prevent UTIs), Effexor (for depression & anxiety)

Past IC meds: Amitriptyline (Elavil), Hydroxyzine (Vistaril), Detrol LA, Lexapro (for depression & anxiety, but also helped my IC) (They all helped, but I was able to discontinue them.)

I've been virtually symptom free and able to eat & drink whatever I'd like for about 8 years now.
