Went to the first doctor January 31st. He did a CT Scan on me and told me that IC was a over dramatized made up, problem. So needless to say I told him otherwise and a few other things, along with the fact that he is , and what I am feeling is a problem. I found a new doctor and am going on Wednesday this week. My question is this: I took my CT Scan and had them put it on disk for the next doctor. Can I be diagnosed from the scan?? I know that I had a pelvic ultrasound and could not even hold all of the 32 oz, for that. I am so scared and don't know what to do other than CRY???? I explained this to the crazy doctor, and he blew this all off. My urine was negative for a UTI, so the pain is here and he is telling me I need a therapy??? I was smart enough to just get my records and leave. Angry and FRUSTRATED!!! This pain is unbearable---- Thanks for being here, , that gets me thru it!!
Tami,
I'm so sorry that you had to deal with such a horrible doctor. I have never heard of a CT being used to diagnois IC. Different doctors have different theories about the best way to diagnois it seems because so little is known about IC. My gyn told me I had it based on doing a potasium sensitivity test. The uro that I am seeing now does not think this is good enough proof and will not say I have IC for sure until he does a hydro/cysto w/ biopsy. From what some other people on the boards have said their dr's to not feel to do either one of those things and basically diagnois IC by ruling out everything else, like bladder cancer and UTI's etc. I would def go to another dr. When I went looking for a uro I called up and talked to some different uro's office to find out if any of their dr's treated IC patients. The practice I go to now the nurse told me that my current uro worked with a lot of IC patients so I asked for an appt w/ him.

I have been diagnoised for 6 1/2 years now. I have taken a long break from the ICN but really miss helping out my fellow IC patients and want to get back into posting.
1st hydro 4/07 showed no visible signs of IC but tons of mast cells in all my biopsy samples which did prove IC.
2nd hydro 4/13/09 showed dark purple glomerulations and I had a capacity of 450 cc's. This hydro proved that my IC had progressed.
I have tried every oral medication as well as rescue instills and DMSO.
I have been lucky enough to see Dr Hanno, the top IC specialist in PA who has told me due to the fact that I have not responded to any "standard" treatments that I have a severe, end stage case of IC with a horrible quality of life (didn't have to tell me that last part!)

Hi
I have to agree with you that the doctor is a nut case, and also WAY behind the times. You are one smart woman for taking your records and hunting for another doctor who knows something. As for the CT scan my GP ordered one to rule out cancer/or anything else that might be causing me so much pain and problems. When my CT was negative thats when I went to a uro. I don't believe a CT can diagnose IC. My Uro did a Cysto with Hydro and he had and continues to treat people with IC-BUT not me. After he told me the diagnosis, I asked what could I do and he said take ant-acids and there wasn't really anything else to do! What a putz-so I found this wonderful site and a uro that could help. Between the 2 of them I am doing GREAT!!!
Good luck with your next doctor and stay strong. You sound like a smart woman and one that won't put up with the ring-a-ding doctors we sometime encounter. Take care.

I think you ought to make the nutcase or his office, correct your records from his office if he put inaccurate material in there, then give you a corrected version to pass on to any other physician's. My records still say that I'm bipolar and that was just something I told a doctor I thought I might have. Never was diagnosed but it's a part of my record now so who knows how many doctors thought my problem was mental before I got diagnosed properly.
A CT will not diagnose IC, but can help with the "ruling out" other problems that is a significant part of making an IC diagnosis.
I hope the new doctor you will be seeing is a urologist.
Donna

Good for you Tami way to make a stand, I felt liberated reading your post! :woohoo: I will pray that you will be as blessed with your new uro as I was with mine. My previous uro also suffered from middle-aged old school jerk uro syndrome. Keep us posted on your appointment, I'm excited to hear how it goes!

Nope, a CT or ultrasound will not diagones IC. I went through that when I finally made it to my Uro. He wanted to do the cysto and biopsy but I told him I had the CT and ultrasound and they all said the bladder was fine. He told me you can't see the IC from those.
Thank You all for all of the kind words. I have to be strong right now. I am seeing another URO doctor this week. I will let you all know how it goes. I also will get my records corrected. Thanks for all of the great support from all of you. Atleast now I feel so truely blessed to have found you all. It makes me finally feel like I'm not alone, and that I am strong enough to keep going till I get the anwsers I deserve. SO again thanks all!! :woohoo:
