  • Does anyone know a urologist in California for older male

I am a 58 year old male in Southern California. For about a year I have had the following symptoms:

-Needing to pee more frequently than usual
-Getting up 1-3 times a night to urinate
-Burning or irriatating sensation in lower pelvic area
-Weaker urine stream, but comes and goes. Seems to be getting better.

I have seen three Urologists with no firm answer. I have been checked out for prostrate cancer. I have a PSA at around 1 and have had three digital recatal exams - all okay. One Dr. told me I had a stage one enlarged prostate - BPH. I am on Flomax and finasteride. Also I was offered an laser procedure if needed.

I have brought up IC a number of times but the guys I have been seeing have no interest in pursuing that. There seems to be a consensus that only women have IC symptoms.

The more I learn about IC the more it seems like that it is a least a part of my problem. When I have the burning sensation in my lower pelvic area and pee the burining sensation goes away.

Does anyone out there have a line on a urologist that might have an interest in looking at a male in the late 50's with possible IC symptoms. I will travel to meet the right doctor. I am not looking for this diagnosis - but I want a Doc who will at least be open to the possibility.

    Thanks.

Where in CA are you? Have you tried Stanford. They have a very respected medical team. My doctor (URO) in Santa Cruz goes to conferences there so I'm pretty sure he's up on all the lastest treatments for IC. I wish you luck!

      Standford

Thanks for the idea. I live in Southern California but I go to No Cal a lot. I will check out Stanford for sure.

I was told by many doctors that it was either or both my prostrate and bladder. Even had one DR. tell me that a can of beer at night might relax my bladder.

It took 15 years and a female URO to recognize that it was IC. I have pretty much self healed myself with diet and natural remedies (2 years) so be patient.

        Life is difficult.
        This is a great truth,
It is a great truth because once we see this truth, we transcend it.
Once we truly see that life is difficult -- once we truly understand and accept it --
then life is no longer difficult.
Because once it is accepted, the fact that life is difficult no longer matters.

          Persistance

Thanks for your experiences. Looks like persistance is the key.

I like mine, I live in san jose near san francisco.
He sees all kinds of patients, although I have never asked him about males he has treated. He is really nice and knows all about IC and always makes sure I understand and am comfertable what treatments he is suggesting.

His name is Dr David Nudell

I am 23 and have had IC for about 3 years now.
I have also had rheumatoid arthritis for about 21 years, I like to think I am used to pain.

I am interested in hearing from people with similar circumstances as I am in, like having IC and RA, being in college, etc. I feel it helps.

Stacy! It's good to see someone from the area!! I live in Santa Cruz. I don't know anyone else around here with IC. I see Dr. Knorr in Watsonville who I"ve really come to trust and respect. Good luck in finding a doctor John! It seems that even the best doctors don't know nearly enough, but hopefully you can find someone to help you with managing all your symptoms.
