UTI along with IC?
Hi all
I am a 49 year old female. I had a hysterectomy in 2001. I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia one year ago. I have a history of many UTI's, starting in childhood. I have had urethral spasms for over a year, which have gotten much worse. I have been to the Dr for what I thought were UTI's, only to have negative urine results. I have had red blood cells in my urine repeatedly. I was referred to a urologist a year ago, and had a cysto done in the office, it was normal. I went to the Dr three weeks ago, and told him about the urethral spasms again. He ran a UA and it was negative. He said he'd do a pelvic exam in February, at my annual physical. The spasms got worse, along with frequency. I void an average of twenty times a day. I have bladder pain with a full bladder, and after voiding. I have noted a direct correlation between drinking coffee, diet mountain dew, and the severity of the spasms. I couldn't stand it anymore and went to the Dr a couple days ago. He did another UA and said it was "icky" red and white blood cells, nitrates, but I don't remember if there was any bacteria. I was put on antibiotics for a uti. I only started having bad bladder pain real steady a couple of days ago, but the spasms have been wicked for several months. Could I possibly have IC, and UTI just currently? I have been on antibiotics for three full days, and really not much improvement yet. I thought I'd call Monday or Tuesday and request my culture results. I have been taking uristat for several months off and on, and am afraid to use it long term. I am currently on Cymbalta 60 mg, and Ambien, for my fibro. Thanks for your help!
