  • metformin?

I was wondering if anyone has had to take metformin for pcos or diabetes and if so did it have any effect of your IC? My dr. might want me to try it to help with the ovarian cysts but I'm wanting to check and see if it could have any adverse effects on my possible IC/bladder issues. thank you!

I take metformin for PCOS and have for years, it has no effect on my IC. Metformin helps those of us with PCOS because it helps our organs use the insulin that our body produces, we produce the right amount of insulin but our body doesn't recognize it. Same thing as insulin resistance, not all people with PCOS have this problem. I don't know that metformin will have any affect on your ovarian cysts though. I have always taken bc to help with the formation of the cysts that come with PCOS, that has worked fine for me. What kind of Dr are you seeing for you PCOS? I have found that the best Drs to go to for treatment are reproductive endocrinologists, or even just an endocrinologist. The last gyno I went to about it advertised that they treated both IC and PCOS but when I went for my appt she referred me to different Drs for both conditions, that defeated the purpose of my driving the distance to see her in the first place. I have had PCOS for 25 years(diagnosed, we have it our whole life) so if you are new to it or just want to talk about it, I would be happy to talk to you. Just PM me.
