  • sooo tired of this :(

a little background on me first:
    24-year old female
    normal weight
    fairly bad IBS-D since 2004
Fibromyalgia/Chronic fatigue diagnosed a year ago
    had a 6-time recurring C Diff infection in 2009.
recently got over a Costochondritis episode
have been put on medicines for OAB, Vesicare and Detrol LA with no improvement.
    I do take birth control

    okay!
I suppose my urinary problems began my senior year of high school, a few months after the onset of IBS. it was better freshman year of college, but hit badly again end of sophomore year, lasting through junior year, got better senior year, worse again at the end of '09 and hasn't improved.

so I've had this on again, off again pattern of terrible urinary symptoms. between IBS and this, I'm using the bathroom 15-20 times a day. it often times hurts, and so many times I feel like I have to go (can be 20 minutes or 20 seconds after I last used the bathroom, there's no predicting it) even when I don't. I wake up usually 3 times in the night to use the bathroom. I keep feeling as if I have a UTI, but tests came back negative. (I mentioned this not-a-UTI problem on an IBS forum, and someone suggested IC, so I came here ) lots of times, I find ANY amount of urine in the bladder to be painful. I gave up coffee, tea, alcohol in an effort to relieve the symptoms, but they are still there. it's just, I almost always feel like I need to use the bathroom. a lot of times, it keeps me from things I want to do. I have to know there's a bathroom everywhere I go. and more often than not, it hurts. so I don't know, is this OAB like the last urologist I saw thought (early 2010) or IC, or something else? I just want this to get better!

HIIII! I am also 24... and although this condition is never fun, you have come to the right place to get info. Have you looked in to the IC diet? IT HELPS ALOT. This may be why your symptoms seem to still be around when you have even given up SOME of the triggers. Look in to this diet on the home page or look it up on google. I found that it took a long time to find what worked for me, but when i did it was wonderful. I have bad urunary frequency, and a feeling of acid in the bladder sometimes... like my pee is on fire. lol I have no pain though, but somtimes I do have urethral burning. I found this to be because I was drinking acidic water. Almost ALL bottled and tap water is acidic, you need to find a good alkaline brand. Evian, Figi and Eska water all have high PH. I drink Eska and it has a PH of 7.8. I would say go to a health food store and buy PH strips to tet your urine.

It is good to have a balance of alkaline and acidic. 5 is acidic, 7 is where you want to be I found this helped ALOT with burning. Eating a TON of veggies helped with that also.

My self I am on the anti candida diet as I feel that yeast in my body contributed to IC. There is a ton of research done on this! Google was my best friend during this...

Prob a good start is to go see a urologist and talk to him about IC. Be warned, not all uros know about IC and what helps.. and some do... but doing your own research is your best bet. The more you know about this the better. I have only ever bee diagnosed in symptom, as I didnt want any invasive stuf done on my alredy sore bladder, but it is your desicion to make! This is where research comes in handy.

WORD of advice. DONT go and read all the horror stories about IC. There are MANY, but there are also success stories as well. Look for the good.

It does get better over time though, even if you do have IC please dont dispair... Yes it can be hard, but lots of us do find something that works!

Good luck, and if you ever would like to chat just PM me!

    28 yrs old,

I have little to no problems now with my bladder, unless I am very stressed out, I forget to take Elmiron for a few days, or I eat or drink something that I know is a trigger...(i.e) like eating a tomato or drinking tea.... Took a long time to get here, but it IS possible to feel good again I just want people who are new to know that IT CAN get better, and for every one person who is suffering, there are hundreds of others who feel GREAT because they have control of thier IC.

What Works: Tylenol 3's, Pyridium, Elmiron (Going on 4 years now!) HOT showers!!!

Medications/ Vitamins: Elmiron-100mg 4x's daily Tylenol 3's/Advil (flaring) Vitamin D, WILD salmon oil 4x gels in the morning, Women's ONE a DAY multivitamin (the gummy kind doesn't make me flare) and PROBIOTICS!

    Me in my graduation gown!

It does sound like it might be IC --- I suggest you go back to the urologist and discuss the possibility.
