Something to keep in mind is a lot of those drug have side effects like impotence (erectile dysfunction), decreased sexual desire or retrograde ejaculation. If you doctor starts you on something at your age ask for something with fewer or no sexual side effects. I am 37 and I am on UroXatrol. I was told it works by relaxing the smooth muscle in the prostate, not shrinking it. A lot of the shrinking type drugs have the sexual side effects like retrograde ejaculation which is where your "stuff" goes back in to the bladder instead of coming out. Not life threatening but would make it very hard to have kids.

My Husband has Enlarged prostate and he takes medication to keep it from obstructing his urethra. If he doesn't take the medication it is hard for him to urinate.
To answer your question about getting married of you can! having kids? Of course you can, as long as you can have sex and successfully ejaculate!

    trying to help

I am not a doctor and I have not been on the IC wagon for very long but I can give you my thoughts. I too had to to all the running around till I was told what I had,

    1) As doctor did not say that i have IC? What do u think by reading my symptoms.
    A) I don't think you do. The only way to tell for sure is to have your uro rule everything else out. Trying to get them to not focus on just your prostate will be the trick. It was not till I went in complaining of sudden increase in frequentcy and urge and not producing much. They cath'ed me and found there not to be much in my bladder. Five minutes after the cath I had the urge to go again and I was hurting. In hind sight I was in a flair and the cath made things worse. That was when they put two and two together with me.

    2) Is enlarged prostate life threatining?
    A) No. enlarges prostate or BPH is not life threatining unless you can not go at all. Then they have to cath you soon or there will be damage to your system all the way back to your kidneys. Now that you will have pain with.

    3) Is Enlarged prostate and IC same?
    A) No. Two different things. Just look at the fact that woman get IC.

    4) Is it true that after botox we need to depend on self cath for voiding?
    A) No again. There is a chance that if they inject the wrong places or give too much your bladder will not be able to push out pee. Thats when you will have to cath yourself. Good news to that though is it will get better after about 6 months(give or take a month or two).

    5) What do you think of the treatment option even if it is expensive?
    A) No clue on that one. That is something only you and your doctor can answer.
    6) Can i marry with this condition?

    A) Why not. Your vows dont say "till death do us part or till you get this bladder thing under control".

    7) Is enlarged prostate curable?
    A) There are many options for prostate issues. From watchful waiting to having the prostate removed. You will need to deside with your doctor what to do. Most of those treatments have draw backs and with your age, I would not want to do something that might make it hard or impossable to have children.

    8) Why did i have enlarged prostate so early?
    A) No one know the answer to that one. Some men will get a very enlarged prostate and never have any symptoms while others have a slighty enlarged one and show symptoms right away. Its was just a luck of the draw for you. I too have a enlarged prostate. Mine is about the size of someone 15 years older then I am. My thoughts on my case is I had IC but my prostate went through a growing spert and it made my IC symptoms worse to the point I went in for help. I am on UroXatrol as well as other meds. UroXatrol is supose to relax the muscles in the prostate and make it easier to go. We went with that one because of my age and there were very few sexual side effects.

Hope this helps. Like I said, I am not a doctor but that was just my thoughts. You need to talk to your uro and make a plan.
    Good luck.

I absolutely agree that you need to work with your physician towards a diagnosis.

And many, many people with IC are in successful marriages. Husband Terry and I celebrated our 39th anniversary in April of this year. I have had diagnosed IC for 36 of those years.

You should print your post and make a special appointment with the doctor just to ask the questions. They owe you answers in my opinion and your questions seem serious to me.

My personal feeling about marriage is that if someone loves you and wants to dedicate their life to being with you, a disease is not going to matter. That's true love. If it a matter of having children, then you'd need to ask the doctor and find out if there will be problems. If they say yes, you can tell your future wife. But people can marry and later get a disease of some sort. So a disease shouldn't scare you from marrying, as long as you are open and completely honest with your spouse.

I'm so sorry you are having these problems. I'm not sure any of us here could answer your questions at this point. It may be best to contact your dr. for some answers on whether you may have IC or not. Maybe one of the males on here could offer some ideas for you.

started a topic What exactly I have? BPH

    What exactly I have? BPH

    Hi Everyone,

    I am 25 years old,Male from India.

Here is the story about my frequent urination:

I think it started 8 months ago it started. I would go to bathroom every two hours.First i suspected that it could be diabetes type II.

Went for Diabetes test and Endocrinologist said i dont have diabetes and suggested me to consult Urologist.

Urologist asked for my bladder diary..I used to void almost 12 times a day with max being 230ml.Doctor advised me to go for Urodynamics test and he confirmed that my urine flow is very poor and i am taking too much time to void bladder.

On June 16,2010 i had Cystoscopy and Bladder neck incision surgery.

Doctor told me that bladder neck is very narrow and my prostate is bigger than normal and it is irritating the bladder.

Urologist did not say anything about IC

    The medication he prescribed is:
Rifampicin Capsules I.P. 450 everyday with empty stomach
Alfuzosin Hydrochloride Extended release tablets 10mg after lunch.

He said nothing to be worried of..(ofcourse they say same to everyone..)

After the surgery..I was like voiding once for every 4 hours..

But gradually i am back to same..voiding for every two hours.

    Here are my symptoms:
I wake up only once from 11pm to 6am..and once i wake up i go to bathroom for every one hour for 3 times.
and then for every two hours i need to void..
    1. I never had leakage
    2. I dont have any pain in bladder
    3. I wake up only once during night time
    4. The ultrasound report came normal

Because of this condition i am not able to focus on my job and depressed alot..

My parents are pressuring me to marry but i am confused whether it is treatable or not?

When i asked doctor about the treatment he said about botox injections..but once i had botox i cannot pee like others and need to use self cath..so just avoiding that thought.

So here are my questions for everyone

    1) As doctor did not say that i have IC? What do u think by reading my symptoms.
    2) Is enlarged prostate life threatining?
    3) Is Enlarged prostate and IC same?
    4) Is it true that after botox we need to depend on self cath for voiding?
    5) What do you think of the treatment option even if it is expensive?
    6) Can i marry with this condition?
    7) Is enlarged prostate curable?
    8) Why did i have enlarged prostate so early?
