  • Discerning between UTI and IC, also question about IC and bladder health

I wanted to ask today if anyone had any tips for discerning between a UTI and an Interstital Cystitis flair up? I went into remission, forgot I had the condition then had a very painful flair which I ended up paying quite a bit for a UTI test and new doctors visit. Does anyone have any tips for discerning if it is a UTI versus IC? My second question is-when you are off a flair or pain free, does your bladder tend to act the same on IC or does say frequency slow down? Thank you.

It can be hard to tell the difference between flare and UTI --- there are home test kits, but they aren't always accurate --- if you've had infections in the past, it can be worth being checked to be sure. It can be hard to decide whether to be tested. You might want to talk with your urologist or primary care doctor to see if you can drop off a sample to be checked if you're in doubt. That way you wouldn't have to pay for an office visit.
