  • New and aggravating urethral pain

Hi everyone, I’m hoping someone can weigh in if they’ve ever experienced this specific pain/discomfort with IC and if so what helped them if anything. I’ve had IC for over 10 years, pretty severe case, and have had many different types of flares (muscle spasms, inflammation, urgency/burning etc). But the last couple months I’m experiencing an intense discomfort like no other. It is a sharp pain/discomfort that feels like it’s more in my urethra than bladder and while it’s not the most pain I’ve had with an IC flare, it is extremely uncomfortable and affects my sleep more than any other sensation I’ve had with IC. I wake up every hour to go to the bathroom and even then there’s very little relief. I’ve had to take muscle relaxants and sleeping pills to sleep and even then I wake up lots. I’m going crazy. So far it seems to last for about 3-4 days and then go but it keeps coming back. If anyone has any advice I’d be grateful! I feel so alone with this new pain and don’t know what to do or what’s causing it!!

First of all, I'd like to say to the IC Network.

I'm trying to think of what might be going on with you. Are you near menopause age? If so, it could be hormonal changes causing your pain.

Have you done anything different? Diet changes? Activities? Different clothing, (such as jeans if you haven't been wearing them)? You've probably already been checked to be sure you don't have an infection. Different toilet tissue? Personal or laundry soap?

Are you seeing any redness of tissue surrounding your urethra?

    Sending gentle hugs,
    Stay safe
