  • Could I have poor pelvic floor muscle tone?

    I'm feeling much better most days since I've started the Elmiron and watching my diet, but I still have one symptom that drives me crazy.

    I have frequency and nothing that I take seems to touch it. The frequency doesn't drive me as crazy as what seems to happen if I give into and keep going (and I can always go; alot!). The more often I go, the more pain I have. It seems like after I void, and if it's been anyless than 2 hours since I just went that it keeps increasing and then I start hurting.

    Also, I thought that maybe if I started doing Kegels they might help me, but when I tired to locate the proper muscles to use (you know, how they tell you to start to void and then try to stop it so you can find the proper muscles to use), I can't stop the stream.

    If I could just get this part figured out, I think I would feel a whole lot better. Any advice or thoughts on this.

    I'm going to get in touch with my doctor, but I wanted to run this by those of us who deal with these issues and get some insite.

    P.S. I was examined by my gyno because I wanted him to check to see if I had PFD, he said I didn't but I'm concerend about not being able to stop that stream (I didn't know that when I went to him because I had never tried it)I did have some atrophy that I'm using a estergon cream for.
    Currently taking Elmiron 3 times a day, Ditropan XL 10 mg, 1 time a day, Elavil 10 mg, 1 time a day.

    I also use a vaginal cream once a week and I follow an IC diet and use Prelief.

    I was dx'ed with PFD in the end of Jan. I started pt physical therapy but quit.. I will post that later when I am done getting mad about it... My uro dx'ed me thru my symptoms and was given a biofeedback test.. This is were they have you insert a tampon type device in your vagina and the hook it to a machine and test your pelvic floor muscles. mine are flat lined. I do have the excerises after doing them I know can feel the muscles that I could not before. As for thrying the keegels starting out by stopping mid stream and contiuing.. is a big no no no for me cuz If I stop I can't start again and end up in pain another lovely ic affect.. I also was told I was using the wrong muscles but the excersise I have I feel it. I hope that makes sense.

      Thanks for the reply. I'm sorry that something happened in PT, that made you angry. Please feel like sharing it with me if you would like. I'm trying to figure out what's best for me to do. I just know that I have to long to live in this world and I'm not going to let this IC get the best of me. I might have it and I might have to deal with it, but it will not control me.
