  • new & wondering about symptoms??

HI, I was diagnosed with a potassium sensitivity test. I'm scheduled for a cyst/hydro on the 12th. I'm definetly anxious about that. What I'm wondering is does anyone have burning in the vaginal area? It feels similar to a bad yeast infection, even when it's not an infection. I'd appreciate any feedback!

      Grace,
Like Rhonda, I too get UTI's that make my urethra burn worse than just my I.C. burning. I can't really explain the difference but the burning seems to be closer to the outside area with an infection and with my I.C. its up higher near the bladder. Have you been checked for an infection? If not I would ask your dr. to give you a culture to see if there is any bacteria. Chances are if you just had the Potassium test he has already checked you recently but the catheter from the test might have started an infection since they last tested you so I would insist on another culture. I can frequent UTI's and sometimes am cultured one day with no infection and the very next day I will ask for another infection and have one.

Everyone is different so you will have to explore what your body responds to. The I.C. diet can be very helpful in reducing the burning caused by acidic foods so check that out in the handbook. Also, when I had the potassium test it sent me into a bit of a flare and an infection so that might be what happened to you. Check with your dr. to see what he thinks. Also don't use bubble bath, wear cotton panties and stay away from citrus products. This is a good place to start in order to prevent the burning and infections. Let us know how your doing. Know that we have all been through the journey that your beginning and most of us have learned many ways to help manage our I.C. Your not alone and there are many ways to successfully treat I.C.

      Hugs from me. grouphug

Thanks for your quick replies and the info. I've been having this symptom on and off, mostly on, since the end of July. I've not had any uti's in that time, and was tested recently. The PST was a while ago and I just had a mild reaction to it. I've been sticking to the diet for the most part, especially the acid foods. It is hard to tell when I flare as this symptom is most of the time. I did battle with yeast infections for a while and my first "bladder burn" was when I used an otc yeast med.It wasn't the first one I used, I used quite a few. I am also very frustrated with trying to determine the foods or suppliments I can't tolerate. I'm very grateful for this site. I have been reading it a lot and it has been helpful. Grace
