My main symptoms are a sense of constant urgency, of varying levels from day to day.Like sitting on a bus wanting to go to the bathroom and having to hold it.

My other symptom is when i do go to the bathroom, i feel i have to strain or push to get my stream to go.When i get it going not a huge amount is produced.I have had postvoid residuals done at the hospital and they came back with 27-37 mil of urine left after i tried to void in the bathroom.

I had a cystoscopy done in the grey nuns hospital under local anesthetic, sedation thing.I was concerned though as i heard you can only diagnose ic through cysto and hydrodistention.I asked my urologist about the possibility of me having ic and he said it would be very rare and my bladder looked fine when they distended it.I am confused though, did i have a hydrodistention to check for ic, as i was only given local anesthetic.I havent gotten a proper answer from my urologist to this day.I was given ditropan to try, i took about 7 or 8 of those, i think for five days.I found it didnt relieve my symptoms any, the urgency.I dont know but should i have tried the ditropan longer? When this started the two feelings i had were having a hard time straining to urinate and the urgency feeling.I am really confused and just wanting answers as to what is wrong.I had a urodynamics test done last week and await the answers this friday.

Does anyone have any advice? I feel im not getting help or relief from this problem.

My suggestion is to ask the physician specifically if he did an over-distention (hydrodistention). You might also ask about a potassium sensitivity test, which can be done in the doctor's office and sometimes, but not always, diagnoses IC.

I know how frustrating it must be to not know what's wrong --- I hope you get some answers soon.

      Sending healing thoughts,
      Donna

I'm sorry you are feeling bad. When I have severe urgency, I take Pyridium Plus. It does seem to help some. Also I drink a lot of water to dilute, that seems to help.

        Good luck.
