  • first bladder infection in soo long....

    I am absolutely frazzled!

I haven't had a bladder infection in almost 2 years and one month after my cysto/hydro I develop one after some 'activities' with my hubby!

I am concerned as I went and got antibiotics however they seem to be working slowly (got Macrobid, the bumblebee pills) - and I am very upset with myself b/c I was starting to feel incredible after the cysto/hydro! I could go (while awake or asleep) up to 6 hours without urgency!...

I am also worried that this will wreck my bladder after having those procedures done to alleviate my IC symptoms...is that a possibility? and how long does it usually take to feel better using the macrobid? i don't think I've ever used it before and it's been so long anyways!

    sigh...

I would love to become a doctor who finds a cure for this someday! if only I could tolerate blood and needles!

    Braedley,
I'm right there with you in the UTI flare club! I've not had one in a couple of years and developed one this past weekend (as I was traveling across the country for my MILs memorial service!) that completely threw me for a loop. I find that when you have IC, the antibiotics will treat the infection, but it takes longer for our bladders to feel better. Also, use prydium or whatever you need to keep your pain under control. If you break the pain cycle early you'll feel better sooner.

    Take care of yourself.

Sorry to hear you're feeling so bad. Hope you feel better soon. I wish I could answer your questions about Macrobid. My uro has me on it right now to rule out a bacterial cause for my problems. I've been on it for 2 weeks and haven't seen any difference so I'm pretty sure mine isn't bacterial

I have been diagnoised for 6 1/2 years now. I have taken a long break from the ICN but really miss helping out my fellow IC patients and want to get back into posting.
1st hydro 4/07 showed no visible signs of IC but tons of mast cells in all my biopsy samples which did prove IC.
2nd hydro 4/13/09 showed dark purple glomerulations and I had a capacity of 450 cc's. This hydro proved that my IC had progressed.
I have tried every oral medication as well as rescue instills and DMSO.

I have been lucky enough to see Dr Hanno, the top IC specialist in PA who has told me due to the fact that I have not responded to any "standard" treatments that I have a severe, end stage case of IC with a horrible quality of life (didn't have to tell me that last part!)

thanks ladies - i would LOVE to take something for the discomfort/mild pressure, but since my cysto/hydro, pyridium makes me feel like i'm dying! extreme abdominal cramping, nausea and diarrhea...so i don't really have much to take...trying ultra strength motrin but not really noticing a big difference...

i have an appt with my family dr. monday night when i'll be finishing up my meds, hopefully we can retest and show it's cleared up...I haven't had an infection with my IC before, so i'm very impatient to start feeling better now!...

Once you get rid of the infection, you will probably be back to feeling good.
