  • Cats & IC

It just seems interesting that Cats get IC and there seems to be a lot of cat lovers on this forum. I just thought I would point that out. Has anyone else noticed this? Although I am more of a dog lover I did have a cat in the house when I was growing up. Right now I only have an outside cat. I did have two but the bug exterminator accidently exterminated the other one with his vehicle. It was a real sweetheart. I was not sure where to post this but I thought I would throw it out there to see what everyone thought!

        So How?

The most interesting question to me is,"How did the cat develop IC in the first place?" Could it be from the crap in their kitty food that produced so many body toxins and bladder toxins it eventually ate away the lining? Most likely Kitty didnt have a lot of antibiotics, or a C-section, so maybe look to diet and the toxins in the diet for Kitty and us?

I'm thinking maybe it shows it IS some kind of autoimmune disease. My cat gets allergies which I consider to be a mild autoimmune thing, why shouldn't she get other autoimmune disorders like humans do?

I have to wonder if it is something they carry that we could possibly pick up? I know that's a long shot. It is interesting though that Sandra's cat has food allergies along with her IC. I am sure the possibility of there being a connection is remote. I just have noticed how many ICers on this board have a cat picture or cat related name in their signature. Also, so many people use the little kitty smilies. I have intended to point it out for a long time and just now got around to it. -Vicki

Sami- you bring up an interesting point. Kitty has not been drinking too much Nutrasweet. Nor has she been taking birth control pills to mess up her system. She could have been spayed though! Unfortunately, I had IC way before I was spayed!!!!!! Miss Kitty also has not been living life in the fast lane with her high profile career:-)

                  Allergies and autoimmune

All allergic reactions produce histamines which are damaging to the bladder lining (thats why ICers are RX Atarax to keep these at a minimum).
Same with any autoimmune disorder, the real questions are," How much abuse can your immune system take before it says enough? When its had it with irritating substances it will first develop allergies and then go on to something more omninous. These things are not isolated to body parts or symptoms, they are symptomatic of a total body and immune system imbalance. You may have Hay Fever and your symptoms may be nasal, but trust me, the body reaction is systemic and its producing histamines throughout, not just in the nose.
This is why a lot of alternative & Oriental practices work. They remove almost everything from a persons diet and environment, place them on only organic simple food, lessen stress, and Voilla, they get better.
I was once cured of Endometriosis with Macrobiotic Medicine. I never, ever had Endometriosis again. I later developed a fibroid uterus, and two weeks ago decided to finally just have a hyster because I wanted to used higher hormones than the fibroids liked. After the Hyster the surgeon asked me if I had ever had abdominal surgery before because my abdomen was full of adhesions? What were they? Old Endometrial implants that had dried up and left scaring.
The more sensitive your system the more problems you are going to have medically if you dont learn what your body can and cannot handle.
