So I need to ask this question because I'm feeling so lost in this world and I'm trying to figure things out. This evening when I was in the shower, I was trying to pinpoint the exact pains that I experienced during my last pelvic exam (I thought I was going to die). While doing so, I noticed that the right side of my vaginal wall was extremely sensitive, while the left side was not. I am a virgin, so in general I am ...tight, but I seem unusually tight. Does this sound familiar to anyone? I still think it's Endometriosis, but I'm not a doc.

I would see a gynecologist
I had similar pain, and it was a cyst on my ovary. (Some are more painful than others) Mine was able to be diagnosed via ultrasound.

Yeah, virgin here too... but I have only had 2 pelvic exams that killed me (years ago at the peak of my horrible periods, but BCP helped from there on). Then all these weird symptoms started in November and endometriosis is still on the table for me, but they're hoping the continuous birth control I'm on now will help stop my periods (because that kills me every month, went to the ER twice since 07 started). I've had 2 pelvic exams in the last 4 months and 2 transvaginal ultrasounds... all 4 killed me! 2 times I was in tears ready to throw up due to the pain.
They're trying to pin point my trouble... uro's all out of ideas. I just can't understand why I have to pee 24/7 (feeling NEVER goes away) and they don't know the cause yet. I might have to have a hydrodistention, but I'm back to the gyno in 2 weeks because uro has made no headway.
I feel like I'm in denial because so many people say that my symptoms COULD be IC... but then so many people say my symptoms COULD be endometriosis. 2 doctors say look for endo, 2 doctors say see an IC specialist.

I totally understand your frustration born2swim, I had the same problem when I first got IC. The urologist would send me to the gynecologist saying it had to be endo, the gynecologist would send me back to the urologist saying it had to be IC and meanwhile I'm voiding 60+ times a day, can't sleep more than 20 min before having to pee, am in so much pain I can't eat, walk, drive a car. I lost 12 pounds in 2 weeks from nausea from pain.
I finally made an appt with a new gynecologist in a practice my aunt had had very good treatment from. I walked in doubled over, the nurse practitioner tried to turn me away & I politely demanded a doctor & explained the problem to this doctor, that no one would treat me & my pain was horrible, that the ER was no help because they'd see I had no bladder infection, would turn me away also & then I'd have to fight insurance as well. I begged her for help.
She agreed to do a laparoscopy to check for endometriosis, warning me very clearly that she might find nothing & if that was the case, would I be upset with her? I said no, it then meant that the endo was ruled out & I would hopefully then get treatment for the IC.
When I woke up from the laparoscopy, she told me that there was no endo & put a business card in my hand for a very kind urologist who gave me Elavil & started me towards recovery. Eventually he referred me to Stanford & they were able to help me further.
Hang in there, once you get a diagnosis, that will really help.Kadi

-Elavil 50mg at night
-Continuous use birth control pills (4-5 periods/year)
-Heparin/Marcaine/Sodium Bicarb home instills at night 3-4x per week, more often if needed
-Pyridium if needed,
-Pain medicine at bedtime daily, as needed during the day several times per week
-Antibiotic when doing an instillation to prevent UTI
-Colace & SmartFiber to treat chronic constipation from meds, Fleet enema as needed
-Dye Free Benadryl 50 mg at bedtime
-"Your Pace Yoga: Relieving Pelvic Pain" dvd, walking, treadmill at gym
-Managing stress= VERY important!
-Fur therapy: Hugging the cat!

The pain during the pelvic exam if it's at the top of the vagina could be from pressing against the bladder. Tightness in one part of the vaginal muscle area could be pelvic floor dysfunction. Or there could be another problem. Sounds like more discussion with your doctor is in order.Kadi

I am guessing you are checking internal. If one side is more sensitive then the other side you may want to ask the doctor about Pelvic Floor dysfunction. When I was (still do) having pain vaginally my uro did a pelvic and asked me as he was doing the exam he asked me if it hurt when he touched each side.
