  • smelly urine?

do any of you get strong smelling urine when you have a flare - even if you don't have an infection? It is an odd smell that really has a rotten scent....sorry to be so blunt but I wonder if it is only me?

I get this too. My pee smells like a dead rat or something( sorry for the gross description). I thought maybe it was infection too, but my culture was clear.

Yes, I get it too. Inflammation produces a lot of yucky things, and I guess they are smelly, too!

*Also diagnosed with PFD, fibromyalgia, chronic myofascial pain, IBS, migraines, allergies/asthma, dermatographism
*Kept trying a million different treatments for all these things until I found what works, and I am doing okay these days with the help of a cocktail of medications and the InterStim, which was first placed in 2007. Thank you for posting this question, as I have wondered it myself. I've gone to the bathroom and thought DAMN, why does it smell SO BAD, how can I NOT have a UTI with how rank it is??? Sorry for TMI, but this answers my question...

            Smell

If it isnt ammonia which is common, and if its really stinky then its probably indicans, a urine chemical which is rank.

I read somewhere that when you eat asparagus it can make your urine smell like rotten cabbage, garlic, or even like a skunk smell. That is so weird. It also said that about 50% of the population will have this reaction and only about 50% of the population will be able to smell the scent. It can take about 15-30 minutes to have the smell after you eat asparagus. I tell you what......you learn something new every day

It can be from something you eat, from not drinking enough, infection --- or I sometimes wonder if I don't sometimes have a very sensitive sense of smell.

I know when I use to drink wine, before IC dx, I would wake up and it would smell like the wine, yuk. Well now I don't drink, maybe one glass every 6 months, and I am glad, because when I go out of town with my friends and we go out, they drink too much, and now I wake up without a hangover and they are all going ahhhhhhh, of course I have my ic pain, but not a hangover.

thanks everybody for the replies- I think this time it was an infection - went to the doctor and had blood in my urine! No where close to that time so they put me back on another round of Levaquin.

You all take care and have a good weekend.

I've noticed it too.... but only after I started taking Desert Harvest freezes dried aloe Vera. Wondering if that is how my body absorbs the aloe vera
