  • Urethral pain - constant or "jabbing"?

Mine comes and goes -mainly with movement and when I'm anxious - its sharp and lighting fast -as soon as I feel it and try to identify exactly where its coming from - its gone. It usually occurs after a period of sitting down which makes me think its related to PFD.

HI! Do you have any incontinence? My urethra pain starts out with a sharp pain....but it's from a drip of urine coming out of my urethra......it's sharp and fast. Then it's gone for a while....and usually happens after sitting for a while. Roxie

For IC I use Elmiron, Elavil and Freeze dried Aloe Vera (it works likes Elmiron, but naturally)and Azo as needed. I also take Zegerid, Randitine for Barrett's Esophagus. (which causes me to have constant yeast infections!)I take Cymbalta for Neuopathy/Myopathy pain. I use the Climara patch for menopause symptoms. I'm on a very strict diet because of the IC, IBS and Gastric Bypass. I take Primal Defense Probiotics and whole food Iron.
I no longer have the awful urethral pain! I've been using MSM gel now for 4 mo. and haven't had a flare up or the urethra pain.....it's amazing stuff!!:woohoo:

Hmmm... yours is somewhat similar to mine. I generally do not have much urethral pain. However, I do have episodes where I get jabbing pains during urination, and also other times, which seem random. Perhaps I should figure out what I've been doing when they occur.

They do occur more often during a flare. I usually describe those as someone pinching my urethral opening, and also poking me with a knitting needle inside.

I have also had sensations that someone is repeatedly pinching/piercing my clitoris; that normally occurs after foreplay that is too long and/or intense during sex.

        Hope this helps....

I'm with Sarojini - feels like someone would be pinching me, like they'd reach up grab pinch and pull. Ugh it was terrible -would come out of the blue (usually after I'd been standing for too long, but could happen any time), and be enough to make me react, lol. Try explaining that to someone when you wince for no outward appearing reason!! LMAO!!!

I notice mine are worse when I'm nervous or scared - I sharply retract my genital area (the "fear chakra") and then I get the pain. None on urination - not while sitting - more on walking around or standing. I think it must be related to not drinking enough water (with baking soda) and/or PFD. Plus I'm in post menopause so my tissue "down there" is very fragile and can get inflamed and crimson red in just a day or so - I guess that's due to not having any estrogen left. Getting old is SO much fun!!!! (not!!!)

My pain is on/off all day long, same with the degree of pain. I often refer to it as peeing glass or peeing over a cut it hurts real bad about 10 minutes after peeing orbit! I use to take pyridium or urelle to help numb the burning; you could also take something for bladder spasms like oxybution, hope this helps.

I have the "pinch and pull" too; it's really horrible. It's one concept that my husband is completely unable to get his mind around! LOL

Mine usually comes after peeing, and gets worse for a while after that. But just now and then, not every time. I have lidocaine gel with a little applicator so I can kind of squirt it up there -- that helps tremendously, but I don't carry it around with me, so if it happens while I'm out, I'm miserable. Fortunately it's not that frequent, approximately every two or three weeks, and will usually continue for three or four trips to the potty.
Je vous souhaite de la joie, de la bonne santée, et tout ce qu'il y a de bon dans la vie.
Wishing you happiness and good health, and all the best out of life.

                    Peace, Carolyn

I have it too, it just a pinch and its gone. What I found that helps it is that I take Effexor-- I was originally taking it for my night sweats, but I'm not having them as much so I stopped taking them, and when I did, I noticed the pain, so I had my doctor put me back on them. Anyway, I don't have them anymore.

My urethral pain is a constant, vaguely stingy, feeling - I think it is what others on this board call a burning feeling. It is always there and it often makes me feel like I need to urinate. I have not had bladder pain since the onset of my problems in Jan 07. I never have cramping or stabbing pain. Elavil seems to make the stingy feeling more subdued and helps with frequency.

My pain is more often than not inside my bladder but I do get a stinging sensation in my urethra when I am in a real bad flare or when I have a uti.
I often feel like I have fire ants inside my bladder. I also get throbbing pains in my bladder especially when I sit still too long. It seems like pain changes from today.
