  • Abdominal pain does anyone else get this with IC?

Hi, I am 22 years old and diagnosed with IC one year ago, I have been having severe pain in my abdomen upon waking in the morning its not everyday but it is very frequant i have to lay in bed in such pain its just awful to wake up in the morning the pain lasts for about an hour,I recently went to see my uro and asked him if this is related to ic but he brushed me off and i have also asked my pcp about this pain as well with no answers from them. I am so upset that no one seems to care if they were to wake up with this pain they wouldnt be brushing me off. sorry for ranting there. i would really appreciate some insight on this.
    Blessings

I used to get medium to severe menstrual cramp-like feelings in my bladder for which I used a heating pad. Sometimes they would last for days - I would pray for a break but then it I had some relief, it would come back.
Finally, I did acupuncture and took Chinese herbs for pain and I got rid of it. Be sure if you go to a Chinese medicine doctor - they are board certified and fully trained and have experience dealing with IC related issues successfully.

My TCM (traditional Chinese medicine) doctor, is, also an MD.

    Good luck.

Ronda, mine is just likes yours and days when it is really bad I swell up all the way from the bladder to their. Sometimes I think if only I had a pin. I have all kinds of tests to figure out why and they all came back totally fine. I do believe it is from the IC because I didn't have it before then. I asked my Uro years ago if this was related to IC and he said no. that is why I went through all the other tests. If I had only known then what I know now.

Yup mine does that Mary, when im flaring it swells and I am so bloated lots of people say this is not related to IC BUT I never had this before IC so I think it is and if im not mistaken doesnt IC cause inflamation of the bladder and isnt that swelling..lol

I have ulcerative colitis but its been in remission for 8 years. The pelvic pain I described above is exactly like the pain I had when I had my very bad attack of UC 8 years ago - its very hard to differentiate them as they are both in the same area.

Yes, I wake up most mornings like that myself. It's tough getting out of bed sometimes. Usually with me, I know it's because of something I may have eaten the day or night before, and that's what's bothering me when I wake up in the morning. So really try to watch your diet and what your eating and drinking and see if that helps. If I'm really good the day before about what I'm eating then I usually wake up with less pain.

                      Hi Nicole,
I hope your feeling better. I wasn't really sure what you meant by the IC diet causing other problems? What other problems are you having? To start the diet, try to just eat the foods in the left column under "usually ok". Do that until you are feeling better and then gradually add in foods from the "maybe ok" column. One at a time so you can see what foods are giving you problems. It will take awhile to figure it all out. But yes, I think the abdominal pain you are waking up with is "normal" with IC. Atleast it is for me anyway. Start with the diet and see if you notice any difference. Good luck, any questions you can always PM me to.
