  • Dr. Dean Edell mentioned IC/PBS today on his

radio show. A woman called up about a friend who had had gynecological surgery lately and while it had been successful, she had developed a case of bladder pain and urgency afterwards.

It seems she was menopausal and her Doctor recommended a course of oral estrogen pills - I think the name was Vagicill or something similar. This was done to determine if she had IC or not. She had been dx'd with atrophic vaginitis.

Edell said he agreed with the doctors' recommendation and thought it was a sensible and "gentle" approach for her to take in order to determine the nature of her problem.

He probably said Vagifem which is a vaginal estrogen tablet used for Atrophic Vaginitits and as part of HRT regime to keep the vagina and urinary tract estrogenized. If she had AV, her estrogen is in the tank and she probably needs a lot more than vaginal E, to help her bladder.

Meds: Melatonin 3mg @ bedtime if needed. Estrogen 1.5 mg troche and 0.1 mg Estrace cream.
Diagnosis: IC, PFD (both in remission)
