  • strange new symptom-vaginal/bladder pain after bowel movement

Since september I have been having a new symptom. Everytime I have a bowel movement it flares my vaginal area (feels swollen) and eventually my bladder. I know it is the bowel movement because if I don't go until later in the day I do not have any pain. I pretty much have my trigger foods down, so I know it is not that. Ihave not changed any meds or supplements. It is even a different pain, deeper and lower than a flare. Has anyone every experienced this? My PT and uro have no idea what it is. I need help

Do you get constipated, where it comes down but won't come out? Do you feel like your bowel movements are down sideways instead of upward? I had a retrocele, wondering if maybe you do. Maybe you need to see a gastroenterologist over the bowel pain. Intestinal problems can make your pelvic area hurt too. I was told it could even cause bladder irritation.

I am not constipated at all. Just a strange new symptom to deal with.

I had to have a rectocele repair recently. I have to take laxatives every night before I go to bed. If I get constapated I flare up easy I have tried the fiber pills they do not work for me. So it is stool softeners and womens gentle laxative.

Miralax is a good natural laxative, it won't hurt you like Exlax or other laxatives like such.

Hi Hallows--I know what you are talking about. I have much the same feeling, but I have been having constipation so I figured it was from straining--dull pain and swelling. I also notice you mention that you feel better in the morning. I notice this too. There is a moment when I first wake up when I feel almost totally fine. I think it might be because I haven't peed all night (lucky that way most of the time) and so my urethra hasn't been irritated. I try to drink a bunch of water and hold it before peeing the first time in the morning, to dilute the urine before it comes through my urethra.
I am wondering if the citrical helped with pain, even though it made you retain urine? I am thinking of trying it, but am worried it!

I get more of a vaginal/bladder discomfort when I am constipated. Once my system clears out, then it goes away.

                  Hey Librarianjen!

Yeah, I feel better in the morning and I think it's cause I don't get up to go to the bathroom at night. I just started physical therapy and hopefully this may help with it. My PT said all my muscles are tight, including my urethra, and the rectum is too. FUN. Lol.
I don't think citrical helped me much cause I didn't take it for too long cause of the retention and it seemed to amplify the weird feeling in my urethra/bladder neck area. I say try it!

I know you don't want to hear this, but you definitely need to talk to your doctor about this. There are many reasons why this could be happening........some simple and some serious. Please get checked!
