  • Constant bladder pain/discomfort.

I am a 26 year old female and I have experienced constant bladder pain and discomfort on and off for the past two months. This all started after I treated a UTI back in November. I've had a recent pap in November and everything was normal, as well as I was tested for STDs and came up negative. I've read things about IC and bladder cancer and I don't seem to have any other symptoms aside from bladder discomfort.

I don't have an urgancy to urinate, I don't really have pain in my urethra, no visible blood or odor, and the bladder pain/discomfort comes minutes after I've urinated, not during. The pain isn't 100% of the time normally, but the past few days it occurs almost every time after urination. I get up to urinate once a night, but I think that's mostly because I've had UTIs in the past and don't want to hold it to cause more discomfort. I was recently diagnosed and treated for vaginitis, but I've seen multiple doctors (4-5) and none of them seem to know what's wrong with me. I have no fever, very rarely nausea or lightheadedness but no vomiting; it's very localized and only seems to be bladder pain/pelvic pain.

When I had my UTI in November, there was buring in the urethra and general discomfort in the bladder, but I was prescribed and took Bactrum. After the symptoms developed again in December, a urine culture came up with no sign of infection in the urine from the bladder or kidneys, and I was prescribed Cipro because the doctor said he had no idea other than a possible "smouldering infection." After completing the dosage of Cipro, the symptoms went away until about 3 days ago.

I have an appointment with a urologist, but it's at the end of March since we have a shortage of them around here. This has been extremely uncomfortable and is affecting my moods and just general well being. I was wondering if it is possible to have IC with ONLY bladder pain and discomfort after urination, since I don't seem to have any other symptoms?

I apologize for the wall of text; I wanted to be as detailed as possible in hopes someone out there can help me out.

Thanks in advance to any input.

to the IC Network. I'm glad you found us.

To answer your question, yes, interstitial cystitis is a possibility. I'm sorry it's taking so long to get a uro appointment; I understand how difficult the wait can be. One thing you can do in the meantime is to give the IC diet a try. You'll find the latest food list at the link in my signature below. Some of us find the diet helps more than any other single thing.

    Sending healing thoughts,

I am praying for you to get help. I think it would be good to get your regular doctor to refer you to a pain management clinic meanwhile. God bless you and all here. I'm so sorry for your suffering.
