  • Pain on and off throughout the day

Is this normal, do any of you experience this? Pain during certain times of the day.

I am usually worse in the mornings, feel like I gotta go 30-45 minutes after I last went. Pain?? I don't know but definitely discomfort, like kinda hard to sit. This morning I had veggie links. I used to eat them every single day...so I thought I would try them. I'm drinking low acid coffee along with 2 prelief, 2/3rds decaf. Thought that would be ok.

Then the afternoon rolls around and since giving up yogurt I can go 3 or sometimes 4 hours with no pain into the evening.

Does this sound like diet to you guys? I will try going without the coffee again but even 2/3rds decaf I get a migraine when I try stopping.

I hate to say it, but it seems as though some of your problem (this is TOTALLY my opinion) maybe the coffee. When I first found the diet, I thought I could do half and half on the low acid coffee. That didn't work so I cut back to just a little reg with mostly decaf. That didn't work either. SO I went to straight low acid decaf!! And THAT didn't work!! That's when I realized it wasn't the decaf or the acid. It was the coffee. I went into mourning. Honestly, I cried!! I still miss my coffee but I've started drinking Roastaroma (I feel like I should be a paid spokeswoman for that tea, lol) and even though it's definetely not coffee, I've gotten used to it. It really is good, to me anyway. And about the headaches...the thing I learned was that by cutting back on the caffiene but not cutting it out altogether, I was just drawing out the process of caffiene withdrawal. I did have really bad headaches BUT once I cut it out completely, the headaches went away completely within 3-4 days.
Like I said, this is just my opinion and my experience. Good luck with whatever you decide to do.

Thanks Kadi, I appreciate your opinion. I successfully went off coffee about a year ago and started brewing this herbal "coffee" I got at the health food store. It didn't seem like it helped much going off the coffee but I can try again...
Maybe the two large mugs I had were just too much! ha ha
I usually try and hold it down to 1 mug.
I honestly hate how I feel without coffee in the morning. Even that little bit of caffeine keeps me from dragging.
I'll try it again. It would be worth not having the pain anymore. I swear diet didn't used to effect me other then tomatoes etc and then it was obvious to me, even 20 years ago I noticed that but not much else.

The "dragging" feeling takes longer to go away than the headache. It took me a few weeks to get used to waking up and ~feeling~ awake. Oh, I'm not trying to sugar coat it, it sucks!! I wish you the best luck!!!

I get worse in later afternoon and it isn't related to diet in my case. However, even low acid coffee sounds suspicious. Suggestion, Even with migraine, could you do your best to give up the coffee and take Asprin?

            Hi Cindi,
I go up and down with pain all day too. If it isn't the coffee you can always go back to it. I know what you mean about diet. At first I could still eat many things on the IC diet. Then I became gluten and dairy intollerant, then it was more and more foods. I certainly don't understand it at all.

So I gave it up, its been I think 5 days, got through the migraine successfully yay! This morning still had the discomfort though I've switched to roastaroma and I'm beginning to suspect the cinnamon. I've noticed the ginger tea by davidsons 1st ingredient is cinnamon and I'm thinking everytime I drink it I am bothered. Their other teas I'm fine with
If its not one thing, its another! I'll give that up for a few days and try other teas, I just got in the mail four different flavors of the davidsons teas so I'll try those, cinnamon is not in any of them.

Oh good idea. I have trouble with all-spice and nutmeg for sure - I am not brave enough to try cinnamon yet. Let us know how it goes.

Cinnamon has been ok for Bob, IN MODERATION. A lot of other spices are out, other than cooked garlic, onions. A little bit of lemon once in a while on fish or whatever seems to be ok for him as well. Most others are no-nos. And vanilla is ok too. You will be amazed what you can do with just those 4 things! Congratulations for giving up the coffee, low acid. You are fortunate to be able to drink other teas. My experience having IC for decades is herbal teas and some spices and ginger are problems for flares for me. Rarely I drink camomile which seems ok with honey.

Yeah more and more I'm thinking I can't tolerate cinnamon which of course I love. I love it on toast with peanut butter, I used to like to sprinkle it in my coffee with whip cream, and in my yogurt which I can't eat now.
I'm pretty hooked on these davidsons teas, I just have to be better about reading the ingredients. Most of them are rooibus, sometimes barley or carob and flavor. The french vanilla, cherries jubilee and carob mint are now my favorites. I am giving away the gingerbread from celestial seasonings and the roastaroma I will try again but it also has cinnamon and allspice so we'll see.
I'm beginning to think I'm more sensitive then I thought, at least to spices and such.
