  • dark urine?

    hi all,

just wondering if this is 'normal' of ic.

i have dark, cloudy smelly urine (sorry for being gross) pretty much all of the time. i drink about 2 litres of evian a day so i am certainly not dehydrated. i do not have an infection either as my urines been sent off to be tested several times and has always come back negative for bacteria/infection aside from once it said i had an infection, but apparently it cleared up with antibiotics.

is there a chance i could have some underlying infection that isn't being picked up? this is what worries me most, so just wondering if dark urine can be typical of people with ic!!?! ANY replies at all would be brilliant.

It sounds like you might have an infection. An infection can develop in a matter of hours. Is your urine always dark colored?

yeah it is, this is my issue i've been tested countless times with my urine looking like this and its only been an infection once that was apparently gone after antibiotics. do you think i could have an infection that isn't being picked up? all my doctor will say is there's nothing there to treat.

If urine cultures are being done it's not likely that there's infection.

I've only had dark colored urine during a bad IC flare, and when I had kidney stones. It's almost like the color of a dark-colored amber beer. It's because there was blood in my urine.

Are you diagnosed as IC ? Do you have other symptoms, such as pain, etc. ?

I've had that amber colored urine in the past. I never knew why I got it . I would have it a few times a week and then it would go away as quickly as it came.

Have you googled food and drink that can affect the color of urine?

There are a lot of items that do so in fact I once saw a post where the person said they could look at their urine and 'could tell what they had been consuming by its color.
