  • Leukocytes in Urine

Is this a common symtom of IC? I tested my urine 3 times in the past 2 days. Once in the morning, afternoon and evening. For the afternoon and evening reads I had leukocytes in my urine- a high reading too. The morning void did not show any.

    Negative on the nitrates.

When I first started symptoms of IC when I was 16 (7 years ago...) I remember the doctor taking urine samples and saying there is no sign of bateria, but the white blood cell count was high and that signified an infection. I got placed on antibiotics 3 times. Obviously, not my issue.

So it would seem I tend to have a high leukocyte count. Is this damaging? Is this common for persons with IC?

I have this too. Ever since my symptoms started in January this year I keep testing positive for white blood cells and trace red blood cells but no nitrites. I freaked out about it too but the uro I see now assures me it's normal with IC because the blood vessels in the bladder are "leaky". I also read a lecture on here where a doctor mentioned the same thing. Maybe when I get started on some bladder lining treatment (either elmiron or cystoprotek) it'll stop eventually. But I wouldn't worry about it.

By the way, it's nice to meet another person my age I'll be 23 in a couple months. I'm currently living in Las Vegas and my boyfriend and I have taken two trips to southern cali so far. We're hoping to go somewhere in that area again over Memorial Day.

I'm sorry about your bladder! I wish you the best. I really want to have a bladder infection on top of my IC because it's gotten really bad lately. And an infection would be easy to treat.

I had surgery a month ago on my neck (huge birth defect cyst) and had a foley catheter for 3 days straight- it was wonderful not to worry about my bladder, although it did give me some trouble on the second day. So I'm wondering if I could have got an infection related to that.
