  • Discharge....

Goodmorning everyone! I will try not to be too graphic.....
This whole IC symptoms thing started after I was prescribed three rounds of antibiotics, then got the YEAST infection of my life. Horrid. Took around 3 or 4 treatments (antifungals) just to get rid of the darn thing! Then BAM. Bladder got angry.

Anyhow. This is my story right now. Ever since I was a teenager I had discharge (white) coming from my vagina. This was always normal on every pap, and I was not too overly concerned about it... but I did notice that every year it would become thicker, a little bit more noticable, and SMELL like potatoes or bread. Essentially it smelled "like a brewery"... as my last boyfriend would call it... LOL....:P of yeast....Still I thought nothing of it, it never bothered me... just sometimes when I was having sex... this white PASTE would coat my bf's penis.. Ew...This was all when I was about 21/22.

Fast forward to now...I am 24. After I had taken all these antibiotics in Oct, and after the terrorizing yeast infection this discharge has gotten out of control.... and I mean globs... that I can scrape off my underwear... I have been to Dr. after Dr. testing me for everything (as everyone does with thier bladder at first it seems anyways) and I have even gone BCK wanting to know aboutt his discharge!.... everything comes back normal time after time. No infection, no yeast no nothing. They tell me this mystery discharge that smells like a beer brewery, is a thick white PASTE on my boyfriend after sex.... and tastes EXTREMELY bitter and sour...(thank god I have a good man)..lol is NOTHING. They tell me eventually it will go away... or it is my body trying to settle down. Im sorry thats BULL. I know that because over the years it has become progressivley worse.

So I guess my question is or my thinking, this MUST have something to do with YEAST in my body. It would and does only make sense really...and it must have been building for a long time. So WHETHER or NOT I have IC. I have yeast, and it has caused my bladder to become very upset!. I know there are many books and many people who have said that yeast plays a huge role... and when I go online to google and put in "Candida and bladder issues" it is amazing what comes up. Apperantly there are SO many cases of this bladder irritation because of yeast. These women do no have IC (or have never been diagnosed) but many of them claim that after they had figured out thier yeast problem and attacked it, that slowly thier bladders returned to normal. I have to say that most of these women did/do not have pain) which could possibly signify that they did not have IC to begin with anyways (possibly). There are also many women who DO have IC and claims that yes this was what caused thier IC, and the candida diet has helped them immensly.

Anyways needless to say.. I tried the anti candida diet, at FIRST and it did help! ALOT.. however I was severly impatient too and only managed to do it for 1 month and a bit. I wanted results right now!.... ugh clearly this is not the case with yeast... sooo I went/switched to the IC diet... but also went nuts with the white bread and sugar.. since these are ok on the list... Now here I am frusterated, and kind of ticked off at myself for not perservering the first time!!!

Anyways, I am back on the anti candida diet. I have a new goal now to do this diet FULL FORCE and no cheating until AT LEAST the end of Aug, in which there is a wedding I am going to.. and will possibly want to cheat foodwise at ...lol I have also started to take probiotics again, (which I stopped for awhile as well, and citricidal, which is a natural anti fungal. Gonna go to the health food store and get a diferent antifungal as well and alternate, so that the yeast does not become immuned.

I figure this can ONLY be GOOD for my body and my bladder as well Kind of like a prolonged detox... which is what it is essentially... as yeast is SO hard to kill....

Anyone else have luck with the anti candida diet? Or have a similar story to mine? Anyone ELSE have this scary PASTE discharge WITHOUT being an infection of ANY kind?

    28 yrs old,

I have little to no problems now with my bladder, unless I am very stressed out, I forget to take Elmiron for a few days, or I eat or drink something that I know is a trigger...(i.e) like eating a tomato or drinking tea.... Took a long time to get here, but it IS possible to feel good again I just want people who are new to know that IT CAN get better, and for every one person who is suffering, there are hundreds of others who feel GREAT because they have control of thier IC.

What Works: Tylenol 3's, Pyridium, Elmiron (Going on 4 years now!) HOT showers!!!

Medications/ Vitamins: Elmiron-100mg 4x's daily Tylenol 3's/Advil (flaring) Vitamin D, WILD salmon oil 4x gels in the morning, Women's ONE a DAY multivitamin (the gummy kind doesn't make me flare) and PROBIOTICS!

I don't mean this in a rude way, but have you been checked for STDs? You said you were checked for infections and yeast right?
Have they checked if its bacterial vaginosis? I know that creates a whole lot of off-white discharge, isn't an STD, and you have to examine the cells to know.

Otherwise.. I don't know, it could maybe be regular discharge just in a large volume, as you said its been happening since you were a teenager. I'd go to an OB GYN for a second/third/fourth opinion.

oh yeah, all checked for that too. Like I said I have been from dr. to dr. to dr. I have had like 15 different ones check EVERYTHING including std's and still no one has any idea. Right now I have even more... ugh because of the die off symptoms from the anti yeast diet... so annoying.

I know it sounds bad, but that's really good! I can't imagine how much worse an STD would make IC symptoms.
It definitely does sound like a yeast infection. Hmm... I'm going to look up some things and see if I can find studies about yeast overgrowth, see if I can glean any tips.
Does the discharge get worse at any time, like before or after your period?

Yeah it does get worse a little bit before my period, but it seems to be there all the time. Its not an infection either , like a yeast infection, as it doesnt burn, itch nothing its just THERE. and it smells like potatoes.... Like I have eaten a whole pot of mashed potatoes or something... lol I just started to take probiotics again and grape fruit seed extract... and it has become more chunky... I am guessing that is from die off... as I am taking an anti fungal...? not sure.
          Thanks for your help

Alright, PubMed is my friend haha, lots of studies in one place.
Some things I've gleaned so far are the higher risks of having recurrent yeast overgrowth (in a case-controlled study of college students):
"In a case–control study, the factor that was most strongly associated with recurrent vulvovaginal candidosis was oral sex. The oral cavity has been assumed to be the main reservoir for recolonisation of the genital tract of women with recurrent episodes of genital candidosis." Basically its spreading vaginal yeast to the mouth (where there is already yeast) and back, increasing the number of yeast colonies.
The same study says that oral contraceptives and hormone changes may make you more susceptible to yeast overgrowth.

I'll see what else I can dig up!

I found something that may be helpful, but you might already know:
"In addition to oral or topical antifungal treatments, other natural therapeutic options include taking a good acidophilus product (such as Lactobacillus GG) to help restore normal gut flora, cutting back on refined sugars, avoiding dairy products, and eating one clove of garlic per day, preferably raw."

I've heard of all that before myself - but not the garlic!

Yep I take probiotics too... and eat garlic/ Trust me I have tried everything.lol
Just gonna continue the anti candida diet. I might stop the grape fruit extract cuz I think its making me flare. I am peeing like every 20 min right now and realy not happy about it. It wasnt like that before i started the citricidal. What helps you to feel normal?

Are you douching? My gyn told me years go that when we douche, we are removing the body's natural secretions, which can cause development of a discharge.
