  • Increased water consumption = increased everything

I started a diet today that requires you to drink 8 8oz glasses of water a day. So first thing in the morning, I drank a glass. Had another before I went with a friend to get a facial. 20 minutes into the appointment I had to get up and run to the bathroom because I felt like my bladder was going to rip open. I rarely get urgency (probably because I drink little water to avoid this), but the pain was familiar.

20 minutes later, same thing again.

Now, all day, my bladder has felt... raw, bruised. I can't find a good way to describe it, but it almost feels like I strained it. Which is possible, I guess, except that I didn't hold it in for all that long. The need to urinate came so suddenly and severely that I didn't really have time to hold it.

I don't want to limit my water intake, especially because I have a history of kidney stones, but I really don't want to experience this every single day.

Generally I find that sipping water over a period of time works better than drinking a whole glass at once. And what works best is to have an 8oz glass of water slowly through a meal. So, that's 3 per day with meals, plus another 8oz in the morning, and 8oz in the afternoon. So, I guess that's about 5-6 cups per day. More than that & my symptom levels become harder to manage. I also have to be more careful than most because I have a job where I can only go to the restroom at certain breaks, I can't just go whenever... Do try sipping slowly & with meals, it does help a lot of us.

Hi, nitheninny! I agree with Kadi. If I drink too much of anything quickly, but particularly water, my bladder goes absolutely crazy. Try taking time, and maybe the 8 cups is just too much for you right now. It was also suggested by my PA to take Prelief even with my water because of the pain I get and I think that helps but I do have to restrict myself to smaller portions.

Take care, hope you get to feeling better soon and are able to drink the water you need.
