  • Recovery after a bladder infection

So I got an infection last Tueday and it was hell! And wasn't it the worst poss time ever? I had a million important things going on that day! Anyway, I am on the mend and no longer in pain, but I still have that urgent feeling and some pressure. Do you think it is bc I have an already sensitive bladder so it takes longer to heal? I had UTIs in the past but I can't rememeber if it took weeks to start feeling better. I have been taking a lot of Pyridium and it is actually helping, but I hate the bright orange staining.

So what are your experiences after an actual UTI?
Diagnosed: 07/11/07 after Cystoscopy - mild case of IC, I also have PCOS.

    Medicines:

    Elavil 25 mg - 2 x a day
    Elmiron 100 mg/3 x a day
    Macrobid - after sexytime
Pyridium - as needed - it helps!
    metformin - for PCOS

Stopped taking: Detrol LA 5 mg and Vesicare 10mg

I can't help you out a lot here but I can attest to the fact that UTIs can be really harsh on IC bladders. It was only because I got my first UTI a while ago that I even knew I had IC! While I had most likely been living with IC for years it wasn't until I had my UTI that I started my first flare. I would think you're correct when you say UTIs can be worse for us because our bladders are already so out of whack.

That cranberry they kept force-feeding me didn't help either!

It does take me a while to heal after a bladder infection. It also depends on the antibiotics. I find I have no problem with PenVK or Keflex, but Macrobid really flares my IC. Sometimes I'm better within a few days, sometimes it's taken up to 2 weeks.
I hope you feel better soon!

        Pain

I have very painful UTI's also. It takes a long time to get over for me also. Then I have pain around my period, so pain is getting common. I feel like I'm just going to have to live with pain alot of the time.

However, I totally understand the painful UTI's sometimes I think I still have the UTI because the pain doesn't go away quickly.
