so can anyone tell me since I'm sorta new at all of this what your first symptoms were? Mine were constant UTI's that would never go away. Last summer I stayed on anti-biotics for 4 mths. It was so frustrating. I also have constant lower back pain. I've been reading that this is as sign as well. Did anyone have or do you have lower back pain? Also extreme pain in the pelvic/bladder region. I told my nurse today I'd rather give birth 10 times than deal with this. Thanks for all your input and info.

I've had bladder symptoms for 20 years. But when my IC really kicked in (about a year or so ago), I noticed that I had chronic burning and frequency. It felt like a constant UTI. Yet I had no infection. Sometimes it felt like a yeast infection with outer burning and itching. Additionally I've experienced back pain and stomach pain. I got all multiple back x-rays, went to a Chiropractor, and was told nothing is wrong (except a slight curve in lower back). But I wake up very often with back pains and a burning sensation on my skin on my lower back region. My doctor says it's all related to IC and pelvic pain issues. I also have chronic burning in my urethra, despite nothing being wrong with that area.Frances
Diagnosed: 2011 - have had symptoms for over 20 years. Diagnoses so far: Overactive Bladder, then IC, and now Myofacial Pelvic Pain Syndrome.
Medicines: For IC am doing PT, and will be taking Gabapentin, Ativan, Tramadol and Ambien. Ice packs and drinking vanilla shakes help. Foods that cause a flare, tomatoes, yogurt, coffee, soda, all sports drinks, and most teas. Take Verapamil, Naproxen (as needed), Omeprazole, Frova (as needed) and receive Botox shots(every three months) for migraines. For allergies I use Claritin and Flonase. (Feel free to ask me any questions about meds.)
Other conditions: Migraines, allergies, mild IBS.
"If you believe, you will receive whatever you ask for in prayer." (Matthew 21:22)

My problems before being diagnosed with ic were first chronic yeast infections. Long term antibiotics, then recurrent uti's then ic. I really think the antibiotics killed my immune system that is why i ended up with ic. I didn't know about probiotics at that time. Now i take probiotics daily.

I kept getting what I thought was a UTI. My NP and I went back and forth with that 4 times, finally she said you need to go to a URO. The first visit with him, he know right off the bat that I had IC. I truely did luck out because all that happened within a 6 month period of time.
As Greeneyes said, please know that you will get your life back. It takes trial and tribulations, but you will find the combinations that are right for you.
Good luck
