  • Bladder pain with Medrol dose pack ( steroids)???

    Hi everyone.

I have been having a rough time of it lately, one thing after another is seems. We are in the midst of trying to sell our house. Well that alone is stressful but a few weeks ago I hurt my back and that was no fun. I am finally feeling a lot better. Well like 12 days ago I was so overwhelmed and felt awful was in pain, have so much stress I broke down crying. I cried for like 10 minutes, kind of a release. Anyhow, right afterwards my nose got a little congested which is normal when I cry. It usually goes away in about a half hour or so. Well my nose stayed congested and irritated after that. My husband also cleaned a huge area rug we had in our den just preparing our home for the sale. He used resolve carpet cleaner which smells like downy fabric softener so it is pretty parfumy smelling. I ended up having him toss it out after a day due to the smell and replaced it with a new one. I also did some sweeping in the downstairs basement. Maybe all those things coupled aggravated my nasal passage because I seemed to get worse as the days went by. My nose felt very irritated, dry and congested( stuffy). I tried Neilmed which is like a saline rinse but it did not really help. After over a week with no improvement I went to see my ENT doctor. He looked in my nasal passage and said it looked consistent with allergies. He told me to try a nasal steroid spray. I used Nasonex, and that was yesterday. I only used it in one nostril since I am so sensitive I wanted to just play it safe. The doctor said it takes a few days to kick in. Well I felt worse in that nostril all day. Like it was more congested. I talked to my regular doctor and she prescribed me medrol dose pack( methylperdnisone 4mg tablets. It is a weaning dose, meaning you take 6 pills the first day, 5 the next, 4 the next and so on until you reach only 1 pill on the 6th day and then your done. Well I took the first two pills with breakfast. My nasal congestion already feels better but I already feels some discomfort in my bladder. This is frustrating. I mean once you start taking a steroid like this you have to keep with it or if you need to stop you must wean off slowly or you can have some nasty side effects. I need this med to hopefully help my congestion which it is doing. However, I dont want my bladder to go crazy and in a worse flare either. Also, I am praying if this does take my nose congestion down, it wont come back right after the steroids are finished. I have no idea what I will use. I cannot really tolerate oral Nasal decongestants like Sudafed since they have side effects. The nasal steroid Nasonex felt like it made my nose feel worse so do not want to take that one again. They said the nasal steroids are the best with helping with congestion so not sure I felt worse congestion after the nasonex. Any ideas on what else I can do for the congestion. I do not have runny nose or anything, it is more like the mucosal layer is swollen itself that is congesting the nose. Also, how to get through this next 6 days of taking the steroid with it aggravating my bladder?? This sucks, I mean you would think a steroid would help with inflammation in the bladder. I also am so worried I will get a UTI being on an immune suppressant like Steroids. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Also has anyone on here also had to take steroids like medrol dose pack?? How did you fare?

Ugh, sorry for you, its so hard to tell what will help or hurt. I'm on an antibiotic since yesterday for a uti, and like you hope it doesn't make it worse!! Have you ever used a netti pot for your sinus's, it works great and natural with just a saline solution.
Have had symptoms since March 2010
Have tried: Ditropan, Detrol, Aloe Vera, Uribel, Myrbetriq, Vesicare, others I can't remember
Diagnosed Jan 2016, with cysto/hydro,(no hunners) worked great for 4 months, another hydro in July
I just started drinking Aloe again and taking hemp oil which is getting great reviews!!
    25mg hydroxyzine before bed,
25(was on 50) mg Elavil before bed, now on 400mg Elmiron, since about Sept.
    valium suppositories when needed
    Ambien before bed
    for a CURE,

Neilmed is the solution used in a neti-pot; it's on the label of the solution I mix for mine. If you only took one dose of the steroid, you shouldn't have to go through the weaning process. Sometimes simply putting a cold pack across my nose helps when it feels like there is swelling.

      Sending healing thoughts,

Thanks Donna and Sarah for the replies.

Donna: Thanks for the suggestion of a cold pack on the face, I will try that. Do you have allergies and do your nasal passages swell? I have to say, having a stuffy nose is the worst for me. It really sucks. I tried the Neilmed sinus rinse and I felt it irritated me. Do you have to keep doing it a few times for it to work?

Sarash: I hope you get over the UTI soon and that the antibiotic does not irritate you further, I know how that all goes. It is very frustrating.

I have a few allergies, but not severe ones. I usually only use the neti once or twice when I feel stuffy --- what it does for me is wash out what won't blow out, which sounds gross!
