Well, this is a longshot, but does anyone know of any documented cases of EC and Pregnancy? I tried searching on the internet, but came up with zilch. Thanks!

Hi Jen,
I've checked, and double checked, all of the EC info that I've gathered over the years (which didn't take long at all). Not a word is mentioned anywhere about EC and pregnancy.
In the ICN's May 2002 newsletter there's mention of a Dr.Gerald Gleich in Utah that was (supposedly) doing EC research. I emailed him twice, but didn't get any reply. The papers I've found concerning eosinophil research, that Dr. Gleich authored, deal with several [common] eosinophil related disorders, but there's no mention at all of EC. Maybe Jill has heard something from him in recent months.
I guess for the time being we'll just sit here at the bottom of the pile of rare diseases and keep our hopes up.
Here's what the ICN has about Dr. Gleich:

EOSINOPHILIC CYSTITIS
The ICN offers the only Eosinophilic Cystitis Resource Center in the US and we are thrilled to share the news that a new research team at the University of Utah has developed a treatment that they believe will help control EC symptoms. Dr. Gerald Gleich has studied eosinophilia related conditions for more than 35 years. His original interest was with asthma and dermatology patients. He has, for the last year, been working on a new treatment for EC. When the paper is published, we’ll be the first to share the good news. In the meantime, and because so few US physicians have taken in interest in EC research studies, we’re delighted to share this information with our EC subscribers. I spoke with Dr. Gleich today. He often consults with physicians around the country who are caring for EC patients.

Dr. Gerald Gleich, MD (University of Utah), reports that he is in the process of publishing a new paper on EC documenting a new instillation (bladder cocktail) that they have developed and tested. He would be happy to consult with any physicians currently treating EC patients. His contact information is as follows:

Hi Jesser,
Here's the url for the ICN's Eosinophilic Cystitis Resource Center:
http://www.ic-network.com/ec/
There, you'll find almost all the information about EC that's available.
Thanks for asking. I hope you're having a good day.

Thanks for the info, Cricket. Wow, it does sound a lot like IC, but it does sound a lot more painful. I am sorry to hear that you two gals have it.
Hope you both are doing well. Have a great day!

Hi Jen,
My name is Jeanne D. I have EC that was diagnosed in 1976. I have a severe case that results in hemorrhage more often than not. Because I suffer from severe anemia as a result of the constant bleeding I was advised not to have children. I did not listen to that advice and am the mother of 4 children. I had absolutely perfectly healthy pregnancies and deliveries. All of my children were born healthy and continue to be healthy. My first child was born in 1980 -- I was twenty-seven. The others were born in 1982, 1986, and 1991. During all of my pregnancies my symptoms of EC lessened. I felt terrific and my blood count rose to normal levels. I breastfed all of my children and my symptoms of EC remained less during this time. As a matter of fact when my symptoms worsened around my first childs first birthday my urologist suggested I get pregnant again. I did and once again I was better. I do not know of anyone else with EC who has had children and I don't know if my experience will be the same for you. If you are planning a family I hope pregnancy works out as well for you as it did for me.

Thanks Jeanne-that's great news. At the time I posted this I was pregnant, then miscarried, but am now pregnant again. My first pregnancy that came to term was the start of my problems, and hasn't really been all that bad. Hopefully I will get some relief like you did...SOON!Jen
