Ok-not sure where to post this, so here's my question: Has anyone ever had or knew of someone who had an intestinal blockage? My poor brother, who is in Las Vegas for his wedding anniversary, is laid up in the hospital there with what the doctors think MIGHT be an intestinal blockage. He can't keep any food down. He was admitted last night after terrible bloating and vomiting. He's afraid there might be a blockage. So if it is, does anyone know what they do for it? Thanks, Jen

Hi Jen--
Do you mean like a bowel obstruction? I had one, but it wasn't too serious. I lost 15 pounds in a month, and had to go through several enemas, fibers, barium enema, and laxatives to get rid of it.I hope your brother gets better. I know mine was no fun, I was constantly in pain and running a fever.
Hugs,

It depends on how severe the blockage is. If there's a constriction that is keeping anything from going through, it means surgery. It's not a fun surgery, but results are usually very good. We have a good friend who went through the surgery a year ago. It took him a couple of months to recover, but he seems to be fine now.
I hope your brother's blockage resolves itself without surgery.
Sending an encouraging hug,

Well, supposedly he is home today and was (or is) going to be admitted to a local hospital. I haven't talked to him since yesterday, so I'm not sure about the fever. I also read up on what's called a pseudo blockage, where there isn't a blockage, but a problem with how the nerves and muscles work. So maybe that's it-hopefully he'l get a diagnosis soon. I just feel so bad for him-he can't win for losing lately! Thanks for all the replies and ind thoughts!Jen

Jen,
How's your brother doing? I just had that on my mind. I'm a big sister to my brother. We gotta take care of them.
And I hope you're taking care of yourself. (And craving ice cream for me!) winkTons of support,

Hey Jamie-thanks for asking. He's better-he had a little trouble from the iv, but other than that, he's fine. Unfortunately he got some sad news the other day. His wife had miscarried awhile ago, and they got the results back as to the sex of the baby. They would have had a little girl. I'm so sad right now.Jen
