• UTI

I recently seen my gyno, after suffering with a flare for some time she was very short with me and insisted that I was fine my cultures looked fine she said and her words for me were (you will probably figure it out before we do) or maybe it will go away on its own, then threw in that she did believe me that I'm in pain, oh how kind of her needless to say I'm not going back to her , anyway her office called me 2wks later and said that I have a UTI and put me on Levaquin, I took it for 4 days and my IC symptoms got so bad I couldn't leave my house and was up every half hour for nights so I had to stop the meds I have told them in the past that antibiotics make it worse but they just act like I'm crazy , I don't know what way to turn but I do know my body better than they do and will do what works best for me, any suggestions on what to do about the UTI.

You might try a different antibiotic. If you can't tolerate any antibiotics, about the only course is to drink lots of water, rest, and wait it out.

That's doing it the hard way, however.

    Sending healing thoughts,

Do you have a urologist or have you considered asking for a referral to one?

      Diagnosed August 2001

Current IC meds: Elmiron (since 2001), Levaquin (one pill after intercourse to prevent UTIs), Effexor (for depression & anxiety)

Past IC meds: Amitriptyline (Elavil), Hydroxyzine (Vistaril), Detrol LA, Lexapro (for depression & anxiety, but also helped my IC) (They all helped, but I was able to discontinue them.)

I've been virtually symptom free and able to eat & drink whatever I'd like for about 8 years now.

My uro gives the antibiotic that best treats the infection that is shown by the culture....I'm on Leviquin right now too and I HATE the way it makes me feel but I'd rather be on a med for 5 days than 2 weeks so I put up with it.....I have learned with my IC....NO MATTER WHAT THE DR SAYS, MY URINE HAS GOT TO BE CULTURED!!! I've been seeing my current uro for a year now and he just does it because I'm not one who ever feels well enough to know that I'm sick with a UTI and the dip test is completely useless on me Does the fun ever end

Me too, no matter what my urine has to be cultured. I suffered so from infections both urine and yeast and told I was crazy when I had real infections. One of my doctors and he was nice said he would almost bet his medical practice on it good thing he didn't I had a bad bladder infection after the culture and he apologized for doubting me. Unfortunately we have to live and learn and hope the wisdom helps the next sufferer.

I have seen a uro and he told me everything was fine also but at that time I felt pretty good, like I was in remission it was great. the weird thing is that when they tell me that I have a UTI I never even know it, I am symptom free, no pain no burning I feel pretty normal except for the IC symptoms which come and go. I will keep all of you in my prayers , God Bless
