I won't go into details on the nightmare after my laser surgery for endo cause mine had alot of factors that played into it. I had not been diagnosed with IC yet and had the endo laser surgery. IC flares are not uncommon after any surgery especially when a catherer is used. I did not know that and I thought after my endo surgery all my pain and bladder problems would go away. Needless to say they did not so again undiagnosed with IC till almost 3 years later, I had a severe depression and led over the months following to a nervous breakdown. But my case is an exception, there were so many other emotional aspects going on. I had several endo surgeries later and did fine. I don't think it causes IC cause I had symptoms way before that. Just maybe don't expect all the pain from endo to go away cause some can be the IC, and being you are diagosed with IC already you won't set yourself up for false hope like I did. I had bladder infections after the surgery and yeast infections that was dismissed as in my head as my IC had been dismissed for so many years. Good Luck and remember the laser surgery is not a cure all for endo and the bladder can flare even with periods. I beleive it may be linked somehow hormonally too but then men have it. Just be open with your doctor, speak up and beleive what you feel is real and not in your head. Best Wishes Carol <img src="graemlins/angel.gif" border="0" alt="[angel]" />

    Rubi,

The reason I have vulvodynia and IC is due to my laser lap surgery for endometriosis. Without my permission, my gyn decided on his own to burn the nerve endings to help with my menstrual cramps. Had I known that he would do this in addition to removing the endo, I would have said "NO WAY!"

My pain began the very next day, and took 6 years for the proper diagnoses.

I had a feeling that I shouldn't be going through with this operation, but I did not listen to my instincts. How my life would be so different had I listened to it.

As long as your doctor ONLY is looking for and removing the endo, and not tampering with anything else, I am sure you will be fine. Make sure you have complete trust in your doctor, and that he/she understands your concerns.

    Take care, Gail

My IC symptoms started after my second c-section. I don't know how laparoscopies may affect existing IC or if they can trigger IC - I can't remember if anyone has mentioned that here.
