  • Interstitial Cystitis caused or triggered by TRAUMATIC EVENT: LATEX ALLEGIC REACTION?

I am an attorney LOOKING FOR A MEDICAL EXPERT KNOWLEDGABLE ABOUT Interstitial Cystitis TO ESTABLISH THAT CLIENT’S Interstitial Cystitis WAS CAUSED OR TRIGGERED BY A TRAUMATIC EVENT SUCH AS A PROLONGED ALLEGIC REACTION TO A LATEX CATHETER.

Despite the fact that she disclosed her latex allergy prior to hospital admission and the fact that numerous documents in her chart disclosed her latex allergy, a latex catheter was inserted and left in for several hours, possibly overnight. As a result, she developed Interstitial Cystitis almost immediately thereafter.

Does anyone know of a MD who can help us establish the cause or "trigger"??????

    ANY ASSISTANCE GREATLY APPRECIATED.

I wish that I could help you but I can't. But I will tell you that I believe that I got IC because of the latex catheter. After I had surgery the nurse went into a panic when she took the catheter out and I could not go as soon as she thought I should. She put the catheter back in. I was in the hospital for nine days and went home with the catheter. A week later my doctor removed it and I went home. I ended up in ER with sever spasms because I could not pee. Once again the catheter was put back in. Repeat!! I ended up in ER again. This time I was able to go just a few drops and I refused the catheter. After a lot of hard work I was able to retrain my bladder but then I had IC. I believe it was the latex catheter. Two years ago I had surgery and I said I had an allergy to latex. The nurse did not like that and told me if I could wear panties then I was not allegic to latex. After my husband insist that she would be in a lot of trouble if she put the latex catheter in me, she got the kit that was non latex. It did not even cause me to have a flare. I never had any bladder problems until after the latex catheter and now my life is hell. I believe it was either latex in my bladder for a long time or they picked up some kind of bacteria that no one seems to know about. Sorry I can't help you but it was nice to see your post since I do believe the same as you do. Latex catheter could be the cause of IC if you are allegic to it!!! Good Luck!
