  • Chemicals and Flares??

Why is that everytime i clean the house.. I get a flare? Can someone please tell me. is it the chemicals? I read online about possibly that can cause a flare. I used lysol ( because both of the kids are sick), fabuloso, and bleach. Has anyone used these and had a flare?

It could easily be the actual motion/exercise of cleaning that's the problem. I wear gloves when working with bleach water --- it's very drying on my skin.

It could also be the fumes. I know I am very sensitive to cologne, perfume, cleaning products, and even newspaper ink. That is the worst!

The physical activity, as Donna said, can also be a problem. For some reason the motion of the vacuum cleaner sets me off.

I hope everyone feels better soon at your house!

        Ic

For me thats what one of the problems that depresses me about IC. I use to be a very very actice person I cleaned my house with excellence. I use to be a housekeeping supervisor for the Hilton. Now that I have IC I can not clean half as well has I use to. I use to work, garden, and do all outside chores and at one time for a year walked 3 miles a day. I miss all that so much and my coffee.

it could be the physical activity, but chemicals do bother me (I get a headache). I use Seventh Generation products along with Windex to clean my house and I have not noticed a flare. I only use Lysol products once a week or so.. I've noticed that since I stoped using antibacterial stuff all the time, I get sick less often.

I hope you feel better soon!

Thanks guys! I was wondering if it was because I was bending and on my knees washing floors or what. I was also cleaning toilets and stuff. Now that I am thinking about it, I think I got a flare the last time I cleaned my house. Dang it.. So how do you clean your house? Slowly or what?

I try to do a little everyday instead of 1 big clean so that I don't get overwhelmed...

Thankfully, we are all adults in the house; so I really don't have to clean as much as I use to--one big clean a month (vacumning;dusting;moping floors) because after doing this major cleaning I am down for a couple of days, usually have to take off work that Monday as I am just getting back on my feet.
I do clean the bathroom weekly and I do think that the fumes from the products I use do something to me; my IC is ok, but it kicks in my asthma.

You mentioned cleaning the bathroom, and I actually do a funny thing. If I am having a bad night.....up and down...........that is when I clean my bathroom. I am there anyways............

I also use the Kirkland cleaning wipes from Costco........they are the best and the scent doesn't bother me like stronger cleaning solutions.

Have to use the bleach tablets in the toilet though........only thing that keeps the pyridium stains from building up!

                    flares when cleaning

I too seem to get flares when I clean. I've noticed that if I wear gloves, that seems to help with flares.

                    Hope
