I lost my lost job last year and started working for myself. I had to get private insurance and ended up going with a high deductible to keep the monthly premiums down. I'm thinking about taking a new job with a company just to get the group health benefits.

Mary...I'm sorry to hear about your and husband's conditions. Thank goodness you can get reasonable insurance through your company!

Donna...thank you for the response. I came across what you said when I was doing some research.

Unfortunately, insurance is extremely expensive for people who aren't part of groups. About the only way to get the rate down is to go for a very high deductible.

I have my insurance thru my company where I work, I don't know how much I am really paying (guess I could look at my pay stub but then I would probably be depressed!) But whatever I pay its well worth it as I have besides IC, a severe heart condition and just misc stuff to name, plus my husband has diabetes, HBP, and everything else that goes with it. The prescriptions are pretty reasonable (depending on what it is (I just paid $39.00 for an antibotic cream- could not believe that). The prescriptions though are what gets us, but we got to have our medications.
Good luck with your search. Sorry I couldn't help you.

Oh wow. So you actually paid what the average single person has to pay in this area. I was pricing around and found it's about 500.00 to 600.00 per person. It's crazy. So in your case you are better off just getting the monthly plans around 500.00 if that's what you were paying. Unreal...

My post was confusing the first time. I changed it. Thanks for mentioning it and thanks for responding!

I am not quite sure I understand but I have Anthem Blue Cross and I pay $95 a month. BUT. I developed IC after signing up with them so I didn't have a pre-existing condition. The prescription and deductibles are horrid though. A month's worth of IC meds put me over their limit and now I have to pay out of pocket.

With Kaiser and a pre-existing condition (not IC) I was paying $500 a month.

    Reasonable health insurance

This may sound like a dumb question, but does anyone know of a reasonable health insurance for those who can't get it through a company. I have been researching and found that rates range between 1,000 and 1,500 a month for two people. I helping out my pastor who is searching for something. Since he can't get government assistance he has to pay out of pocket. I am so troubled thinking that some people just can't get good health insurance or that they have to scrape by to get it.
