    Re: Long Term Disability

Thank you all for your input. Its a hard decision to make because sometimes i feel ok and have some hope that i might get better but the reality is that i may not get better and could get worse. In that case it would be wise to opt for the insurance claim. I think that a lot of people at work will be suprised because I've tried so hard to hide my secret because i don't want anyone to treat me differently or feel sorry for me. In a way i feel embarrased about this problem. I guess the first step is to talk to my doctor to see if he would support this decision.

If you reach a time when you feel they are trying to terminate you for health issues, that could be a blessing in disguise --- it could actually help with approval of your application.

Looking back I goofed up when I just left my job because I couldn't work anymore. If I could go back in time I would have used my disability insurance from my employer.

It's been about 10 years ago too !!

So now I'm trying to learn about SSD-- the social securities way of paying for your medical needs and other things. Evidently, that takes (usually) 2.5 years and a lawyer however they lawyer only gets paid if you get a claim open. He/she gets your back pay up to $5000.00 or $7000.00 or something like that and you get the rest of it.

For my body I have 3 things wrong now. Any of the 3 would keep me from being able to work. I tried to work for myself and now I'm too sick to do that too. That's why I'm thinking about applying to SS.

Everyone says to hurry up and get going because it's take a long time. With your job it should only take about 6 weeks, at least that's how my policy was when I did work.

I should not have just left sick and on my way to surgery but that's what I did.

    Hope that helps.

    Re: Long Term Disability

Have you found our disability resource center yet? You can read it at: http://www.ic-network.com/patient-re...source-center/

You've been paying into it and you're entitled to check it out and perhaps apply. Check out your personnel policies first and see what they have to say. You may also want to visit the website of the private insurance company to see what their requirements are.

At a minimum, you'll need a doctor who will say that you have IC and that it limits your ability of function and/or work.

Our Spring IC Optimist has an article on the SSA Disability ruling update and the guidelines in that are also useful for private insurance applications. Here's a link to the instant download version - http://www.icnsales.com/ic-optimist-...f-edition.html

Let us know what you find out!

I think it would be a good idea to at least give it a try, starting with a discussion with your doctor to ask for a letter supporting your application.

    Good luck!

Yes im missing a lot of work and should be staying home a lot more than i do because of the pain. When im at work I'm grouchy and not fun to be around and its affecting my performance and my work relationships. I have 7 yrs of extensive medical records so hopefully my doctor will back me up.

    Re: Long Term Disability

If you're missing a lot of work due to your physical condition, that's a good starting place. If you've been counseled about attendance, that's another. Your physicians will need to back you up on this. I was able to continue working until I was able to take an early retirement and I never applied for disability so I can't help you there.

I hope others are able to help more than I can.

    Good luck!
