  • Back from my intake interview

Today was my intake interview. I had to go down to the Social Security Office, and sit for two hours with a man who appeared to be typing in all my answers from the form, then scanning the same form There's actually not all that much to report. He just takes the information in, and sends it off to the Disability Determination Office, where they look at the medical evidence that I submitted, and they will be interviewing me again by questionnaire, apparently.

You have got to love the government. I was told I would be receiving a Denial letter immediately for SSI benefits (that's the poverty program), which I did not and am not and could not possibly apply for. But apparently there's a rule, that I have to be denied that first before they consider my SSD application. Then the other wacko government rule was: Medical records from one of my doctors could be scanned and emailed over to the other office, but the other doctor's records had to be mailed, because there's a rule that you can only scan 20 pages of records per doctor. This is idiotic because the only cost to increased scanning would be disk storage space, which is incredibly cheap. So they'll mail this, and then the next office will probably photocopy it, and the whole thing will cost more money, but at least it will have been done according to regulations!

So I feel pretty relaxed right now. I've done everything I can do for the moment, and I probably won't hear from them for about a month, and that won't be a determination either. Nothing for me to do but sit here and collect the short term disability until it runs out in the end of April. There ought to be an icon for "twiddling thumbs."
Je vous souhaite de la joie, de la bonne santée, et tout ce qu'il y a de bon dans la vie.
Wishing you happiness and good health, and all the best out of life.

    Peace, Carolyn

Carolyn, I know this can all be aggravating and to us stupid but hang on. I think we all have to fight for things, and be that fighter, don't stop until that last of it. Hang in there.

        Carolyn,

Wow...isn't the government grand??? It would seem with all this time and money they are wasting, they could approve everyone that really does deserve the SSD. Just the fact that you had to waste your time and energy driving to the office, to sit there while some guy wasted HIS time by typing AND scanning in the documents that YOU already filled out...and then they are going to send you ANOTHER form that will likely contain the same information that you've already filled out, Worker #1 already typed in and scanned in and sent to this mysterious "other" office.

Anyway, I'm glad the stress of this interview is off of you now. Try to get some rest today!!!

Glad you got that part over with. I agree, it does take a while to get approved, but at least you have the ball rolling now. I hope things move quickly for you!!

            Carolyn,
I hope things go a little quicker for you also. In my case, it took nearly 6 whole months to get my first denial letter. And only about 30 days to get the second. Then a couple of years to get a hearing date! It's such a crock!
One thing I was told (and I'm glad I was) is that you don't ever even have to go into the office. You can do everything over the phone, even the interview parts. The only times I ever went in were just to put things in a drop box and leave. Of course, I went to my hearing, but it was in another town.
I hope you find out an answer soon! I know how frustrating the waiting can be!

I'm sure you guys know this already, but even when it takes SO long to get to a hearing and get approved, I believe you are entitled to back pay from when you initially filed the claim.

Sorry you had to go through all of that today, but hopefully it won't take them too long to get everything approved.....keeping my fingers crossed!!

Thanks, everyone. I'm really not bothered. I know I've mentioned that my older sister is a disability lawyer, so I had a fairly clear understanding of the process from the start, and I expect to be denied initially just on the statistics: They deny something like 92% of initial applications. I was just stupified that I have to be formally denied SSI, which I did not even apply for. What a waste of resources!

I am very fortunate that my husband's salary will carry us easily until they decide to pony up, and I do think I'll win in the end. After all, I genuinely do qualify based on their standards, and I have a great lawyer who works real cheap!

                    How does this SSD work?

I noticed from time to time women on this site posting info regarding the status of their claims. I assume this has to do with not being able to work any longer, or at the level you once used to. I am starting to accept the fact that I may not be 'on the stage' ever again. It makes me sad, but I can't do anything about it. It would be nice to have some recompensation for not being able to work at what I used to love doing.

                    Any info would be appreciated!

                        Hey Carolyn,

I am glad things went sort of ok. Sorry I did not call...but my last epidural was yesterday and I was hyped on anesthesia all day. Call me if you want to chat.

                          Hey Carolyn,

What's up with your PM box. I tried sending you something I really don't want to post. It said you have chosen not to receive them or either can't. Is your box full again? Please let me know this is some important stuff, ok. Some of it includes Social Security Disability information personal to you and me.
